PHS librarian, was hostess.

orite Christmas poems read
by the members. General li
brary problems were discuss
ed and refreshments were
served.

nix. Degrees were given to nine
members of the Phoenix
Chapter Farmers at a chapter
initiation Thursday, Dec. 4.
Eagle Point met with Phoenix
at the Phoenix high school
agriculture room to form a
joint initiation.
After a well-planned pro
gram refreshments were
served.
The PHS cheer and song
leaders with their advisor,
Mrs. Thomas, attended the
yell leaders' convention a t
Rogue River Nov. 29. This
event, held from 8:30 a.m.
to 3:30 p.m., was attended
by cheer leaders and advisers
of several high schools in the
area.
The program began with a
general assembly in the Rogue
River gym; then they broke
up into work groups. These
groups included such classes
as promoting school spirit and
good sportsmanship, and the
making ' of artistic posters.
The morning session ended
with a general assembly to
evaluate the group meetings.
After lunch the cheerlead
ers were entertained by the
Rogue Rebels Combo. The
final session consisted of a
panel discussion led by the
student body president of
SOC, Dick Clark, the yell
king, Wilson Gillenski, and a
cheerleader, Laura Zamrzla

Annual Feed Scheduled

Central Point - The Central
Point Parent Teachers asso
ciation will hold the annual
chili feed Thursday, Dec. 11
from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the
Central Point Junior High
school cafeteria.
The dinner will include
chili or macaroni and cheese,
cabbage salad, cake, milk and
coffee.
At 8 p.m., there will be a
band concert under the direc
tion of Harry Meyers. The
chorus also will present some
selections. Mrs. Mary Gard
ner is the chorus director.
The band concert will be in
the junior high school gym
nasium. The Central Point Home
Extension will hold a Christ
mas party Dec. 17 at the
home of Mrs. Arthur Straus,
643 East Pine st. The meeting
will begin at 10:30 a.m. A
small gift exchange is
planned. The luncheon chair
man is Mrs. Charles Jantzer.
A demonstration on Christ
mas candle making will be
given by Mrs. J. H. Korner
and Mrs. Ray Underbakker.
The Crater Chapter of the
Future Farmers of America
held the Green Hand initia
tion Dec. 1 at Crater High
school. Although there are
some upper classmen in the
group, most of the Green
Hands are freshmen.
The meeting was opened by
Allen Barnes, Crater Chap
ter president. Carl Simmons
presented a summary of the
freshman project which
amount to 46 head of swine,
eight grain fed baby beef
steers, 4 beef heifers, 10 dairy
heifers, 9 chickens, 16 hay and
grass steers, 14 sheep, 12 rab
bits, 1 hive of bees, 1 acre
of truck garden, 90 acres hay,
and 45 acres of grain.
The 151 Green Hands were
then presented their bronze
Dins and membership cards.
The presentations were made
by Ed Griggs and Bill Mac
Farlane, Chapter advisors.
Don Denning gave a short
speech. The Crater FFA tal
ent team consisting of Tom
Samples, Leon Sharp, Denise
Samples, Floyd Sherman,
Dennis Fisher, and Don Den
ning, master of ceremonies,
played several guitar num
bers.
The Green Hands require
ments are that he must be
enrolled in vocational agricul
ture, he must possess neces
sary facilities, he must have
satisfactory plans, he must
forward the program of sup
ervised farming, he must be
familiar with the FFA creed
and he must be able to recite
by memory the "FFA why
are we here?" He must also

The city touncil received
a petition approving concrete

st. from Third to 10th sts.

these would be worked on in
the order that the completed
petitions come in as long as
the funds are available.

a former fire chief of Central
Point. The ladies of the
Grange will cook and serve
the dinner for the volunteer
firemen.

Schadler and Gary Benner,
all of Cedarville, Calif. Ben

Lehigh Would Quit
Passenger Service
Washington -IUPD- The In
terstate Commerce commis
sion was expected today to
formally accept a petition by
the Lehigh Valley Railroad
Co. to abandon all passenger
service over its 1,200 miles
of track Jan. 12.
A commission spokesman
said the petition, which ar
rived Tuesday, was being pro
cessed for acceptance.
However, it is subject to
protest from users. within 30
days. If protests are filed,
the commission could block
the passenger service discon
tinuance for four months,
pending an investigation. It
also could let the proposed
abandonment take effect.

Portland-(UPD-Fear mounted
today that a Portland family
of five persons may have met
with an accident while on a
Christmas tree gathering trip
Sunday.
No trace was found of Mr.
and Mrs. Ken Martin and
their three daughters, Bar
bara, 14; Virginia, 13, and
Sue, 11.
Authorities in Oregon
checked out lead after lead
without success. The search
was going on in Multnomah,
Claskamas, Wasco, Hood River
and Tillamook counties in
Oregon, and in Clark county,
Wash.
Police were checking an
other clue today between
Estacada and Molalla. A fire
man, Wendell Baker of Port
land, told deputies he and a
companion were hunting trees
and greenery near Spring
water Sunday evening when
they drove past a spot where
a car appeared to have left
