Homer, Alaska - (UPD - The
wife of "messiah" Krishna
Venta, who was killed today
in a bomb explosion at
Chatsworth, Calif., religious
colony, said her husband pre
dicted 18 years ago he would
be cremated in 1958
"As early as 1340 he pro
phesied his crucifixion or per
secution would occur in 1958
by cremation," said Venta's
wife, Mother Ruth. "I do not

4-H Sewing Club
The second meeting of the
4-11 Sewing club was held at
Mrs. Cox home on Nov. 18
At the meeting, we decided
to name the club the Sewing
Basketeers.
We also added a new mem
ber to the club. She is Marsha
Wilson. Our assistant leader's
name is Mrs. Moore. Our next
meeting will be held Dec. 19.
Cupcakes were served for re

The meeting was called to
order by the president, Joyce
Josephson. We had the flag
salute and the minutes were
read.
We discussed our Christ
mas party and we are going to
draw names. We are also go
ing to fix up a basket of
canned foods for the needy.
One of the members
brought a rabbit for us to
study its conformation.
Our next meeting will be
about rabbit diseases. Each of
us is expected to tell about a
disease of rabbits.
We have a new member,
Sheila Beasly.
Our next meeting will be
Dec. 22 in the home of Ferae
Kellow.

Soviet meteorological rocket
has taken the first genuine
photograph of the globe. Ra

Leaving for California
The religious cult headed
by Venta has a 35-member
colony headquartered here
with the main settlement lo
cated at the head of the Kat
chemak Bay, 25 miles north
of this south Kenai Peninsula
community.
Mother Ruth said she would
leave here today for Los An
geles. Another woman in the
colony will care for her six
children while she is gone.
Mother Ruth has three
daughters, Nikki, 16, Leila
Ruth, 7, and Rey-El, 10, and
three boys, Sharva, 11, Val
Dorm, 13, and Lael, 9.
The Alaska branch of the
sect is known locally as the
"barefoot people" because
they brave the sub-zero cold
and snow without shoes when
ever they are out in public.
However, when they are in
remote areas away from the
public gaze they wear stand
ard Alaskan footwear.
Law Abiding Group
Territorial police said they
were surprised at the bomb
ing of the California colony,
adding that the sect had
never caused us any trouble
up here. They have always
been law abiding."
Members of tne cult are
noted here for being the first

fire where they aid in ex

Beck Linked
To Land Board
Tacoma, Wash. '-(UPD- The
government continued delv
ing into Dave Beck's numer
ous financial ventures today
in the income tax evasion
trial of the former Teamsters
Union president.
Beck is accused of evading
payment of $240,000 in in
come taxes during the years
1950-1953.,
Tuesday the court heard
testimony that Beck was on
the board of directors of a
Northern California land de
velopment corporation even
though he was not a share
holder of record.
Edward A. Clifford, Seattle
land developer and attorney,
said the bylaws of the Lake
Alamanor Development Co
were amended to permit
Beck's membership on the
board.
While Beck had no shares
in the company, his son, Dave
Jr., and his wife's cousin, Nor
man Gessert, did have shares.
The government is attempting
to show that young Beck and
Gessert were in fact represen
ting the elder Beck.
UNEMPLOYMENT RISES
London-flJPD-The number of
unemployed in Britain rose to
536,000 in November, an in
crease of 22,000. It was the
highest total in 11 years.

Gold Hill Grange
Agriculture was predominant
ly the subject of reports and
discussion at the last meeting
of Gold Hill Grange on Thurs
day, Dec. 4.
Reports were made on prod
ucts from beef to lettuce.
The subject of vertical inte
gration was introduced and
last but not least the subject
of flood controL
, It was stated by Gold Hill's
representative on .the commit
tee for flood control in the
Rogue River valley, that funds
would be needed to bring this
matter before Congress. The
Grange voted money to help
in this project.
The master informed the
Grange that the dates for the
subordinate Grange officers
would be Dec. 7 at Central
Point and Dec. 21 at Eagle
Point. The hour for both is
1:30 pjn.
The master thanked the
members for the card sent
while he was ill.
Cards were sent to Carrie
Dierdorff who suffered a frac
tured limb in a fall at her new
home in Oakland, Calif. Also
to Minnie Fiene, who also
lives in California, and to
Carrie Puhl, whose daughter
recently died.
Plans were discussed for the
yearly Christmas party Dec.
18. There will be a tree as
usual with exchange of gifts.
Also planned is the New
Year's dinner for officers,
members and families and in
vited guests. This dinner will
be held on Sunday, Jan. 4 at
1:30 p.m.
The lecturer's program
opened with a reading by Wil
bur Martin, "The Size of Your
Heart." There were a couple
of quiz contests, in which the
winners were Charles Jboote
and Wilber Martin.
A tableau with music en
titled "An Afternoon on the
Plantation," was on the pro
gram. This tableau opened with
singing "Carry Me Back to
Ole Virginny," sung ; by the
entire cast, which included
Tom Gray, who rendered a
solo, "The Lonesome Road;"
Leona Jenks, Dorothy Eskew,
Josephine Loeffler, Bob and
Delia Cook and Alva Walker,
and concluded with "My Old
Kentuky Home."
Refreshments were served
by Tom Gray, assisted by Mil
dred Wright and Grae Bruce.
Approximately 40,000 boys
and girls aged 15 to 18 are en
rolled as air cadets with the
Civil Air Patrol.

BERLIN VOTING West Berlin's Mayor Willy Brandt
and his wife cast their ballots in the municipal elections

Discusses Soviet Missile
The President was ques
tioned about reports, follow
ing his conference with Hum
phrey, that Soviet Premier
Nikita Khrushchev told the
senator that Russia possessed
ballistic missiles with a range
of 8,700 miles.
The President was -iked
specifically whether H u m
phrey gave him this report
and how it stacked up against
the recent 6,300-mile firing of
an American Atlas missile.
Eisenhower said that in the
first place, he would not go
into details of his conversa
tion with Humphrey because
it was personal and confiden
tial. Fine technique
As for an 8,700-mile missile,
he said casually that he saw
no reason why this could not
be done because, after all, the
Russians had a fine technique.
He said that this country
knew about their missile tests
and their having exploded
atomic weapons over the
range of one megaton, the
equivalent of one million tons
of TNT. .
But, concerning the report
recently in Aviation Week
magazine that Russia had test
flown a nuclear powered
plane, the President said with
considerably more feeling that
there was absolutely no reha
ble evidence of any kind that
the Soviets had flown such
plane.
