sweeping lines. Styling features include an
enlarged sculptured steel design extending
into the front door, an applique at the rear,
and a new front grille that extends into the
headlamp area. Overall length has been
reduced two inches.

Achieve Goals

Meany, the top man in the
American labor movement,
warned Tuesday that if labor
cannot achieve its objectives
any other way, it would have
to set up a third political
party,
"We do not want our own
political party, but if we
have to do that to lick the
people who want to drag us
back to the past, we will start
our own political party and
do a good job of it," the AFL-
CIO president said.
Idea Not Welcomed
"If labor has to go further
than it can through its Com
mittee on Political Education
to make America a better
place in which to work and
live we will take the next
step if it is forced upon us
He said labor did not wel
come the idea of a deep poli
tical plunge but "it is going
to be just as political as it has
to be to win its objectives."
Industry may have more of
the nation's wealth, he said,
"but we've got the people."

ed with enthusiasm by the
2,842 delegates and alternates
attending the first convention
Jury Deliberating
Case at Tillamook
Tillamook (LTD A jury of
seven women and five men
continued deliberation today
in the second degree murder
trial of Lelani Batke, 21.
The case went to the panel
Tuesday afternoon after Cir
suit Judge Jack Bohanan gave
instructions to the jurors. The
jury was out from 7:30 p.m.
to about 11 p.m. . but an
nounced it had not reached a
decision and was locked up
for the night.
Miss Batke is charged in
the death of a newborn male
child found wrapped in a
blanket in some bushes in
downtown Tillamook last
summer.

cent Tuesday night in an ef
fort to attract foreign invest
ments and increase its exports.

Empire Schools
Get Bomb Threat

Tuesday by authorities after
a man called and hinted a
bomb was planted in one of
the buildings.
Police said Mrs. Don Re
gard received a phone call at
her Empire home about 11:53
a.m. A man asked her if she
had any children in the Madi
son Ave. school. She said she
didn't. He told her that was a
good thing "because there
won't be any Madison Ave.
school after 2:10 p.m."
After the man hung up she
called police. Police Chief
Milton Richter recommended
that the schools be cleared for
the day. Authorities checked
all three buildings but found
no explosives.

was apparently a crank. Class
