tention of Medford residents
to the fact that there are no
"special" officers in the city's
police department.
He cautioned residents
against private detectives or
security officers who might
represent themselves as being

Poet Odgen Nash had a
chance to correct his obituary
when a reporter showed him
the biography kept on file for
the day after O. N. kicked off. Nash approved it with one small
exception. A couplet credited to him was written by a Los Angeles
publicist It goes like this:

Rogue Flying Sold
To Brian Douglass
Rogue Flying Service has
been sold by David H. Holmes
to Brian Dougless. The serv
ice is located at Medford air
port. Douglass said the sale in
cluded an office and lobby
building, several hangars, a
Cessna aircraft sales agency,
a repair shop, air charter
service, fuel and oil fran
chises, and both Gl-approved
and civilian flight training
programs.
Douglass, who has been
sales manager of the flying
service, is aviation chief for
the Jackson County Civil De
fense organizations, and is
area search and rescue chief
for the Oregon state board of
aeronautics.
A World War II bomber pi
lot, Douglass recently moved
to Medford with his wife and
two children. He has served
as an airport manager and as
assistant director of the Cali
fornia Aeronautics commis
sion. He was sales manager of
a major aircraft distribution
company in southern Cali
fornia prior to moving to this
area.

Ex-Gold Hill Man
Dies in California
Floyd Lawson Sutton, 64,
formerly of Gold Hill, died
last Monday in Redwood City,
Calif., according to a local
relative.
Mrs. Iver D. Nelson, 408
Beatty st., a cousin, said fun
eral services for Mr. Sutton
were Thursday at Hollister,
Calif. '
He was born in Gold Hill
in 1894 and moved away 35
years ago, first to Nevada
and then California.
He is survived locally by
his : mother, Mrs. Ellen Sut
ton, his brother, John Sutton,
and sister, Maude Sutton, all
of Gold Hill; and by another
sister,. Edna Sutton, Medford.
In California he leaves his
wife, Madeleine, and three
sons, Joseph, Clarence and
Robert. A fourth son, Floyd,
preceded Mr. Sutton in death.

Talent project.
The meeting will be held at
the Talent Irrigation district
office in Talent and will in
clude representatives of the
bureau of reclamation and the
Rogue River Valley, and Med
ford irrigation districts. The
three irrigation districts draw
water from the two reservoirs
and have an interest in . the
Talent project, of which the
two reservoirs are a part.
The meeting has been call
ed to consider terms of the
contract before it is submit
ted to the county court, ad
ministrator of the recreation
areas, and the bureau of land
management, administr a t o r
of the timber in the project.

Contract Proyisioni
The contract, as submitted
by the bureau of reclamation,
regional office, Boise, Idaho,
provides that the county has
jurisdiction and control as
administrator. An exception
to county control include
rights of officers and various
government agencies involv
ed to travel through the des
ignated areas on official duty.
Another exception allows
the bureau of reclamation to
retain a strip 200 feet wide
around the reservoirs and
above the highest water level.
The contract also specifies
that the BLM retains timber
management jurisdiction i n
the revested O and C lands.
The bureau of reclamation
retains timber management

ing portion of timber, the con
tract states.
Basic recreation facilities
shall be constructed within
the areas by the bureau of
reclamation and operated and
maintained by the county "in
a satisfactory manner," the
contract specifies.
The county shall submit
plans for any additional de
velopment to the national
park service and the bureau
of reclamation, according to
the contract.
Maintain Facilities
Pursuant to the plans being
approved by the national park
service and the bureau of rec
lamation, the county is to
construct and maintain such
facilities as roads, trails,
docks, marine facilities, pow
er lines, picnic and camping
grounds.
The county, according to
the contract, is allowed to ad
minister license and permits.
It shall also enforce all rules
and regulations pertaining to
the recreation areas, the con
tract provides also.
The county is required to
submit to the bureau of recla
mation by March 1 of each
odd-numbered year the terms
of all license agreements and
a report of revenues.
The terms of the license
agreements run for 50 years
and can be renewed by writ
ten consent of the bureau of
reclamation.

Mining Discussed

ing were discussed by Med
ford Attorney Cliff D. Quel
lette at the Northwestern Min
ing Council here last week.
He explained the legal as
pects and some of the common
pitfalls of mining enterprises.
The museum committee of
which W. L. Coombs is chair
man appealed for ore and rock
samples to be used in the
council's display at the Jack
sonville museum. Coombs said
that any samples loaned could
be labeled with the donor's
name and returned at any
time.
The revised by-laws were
presented and discussed by the
council, and will be voted on
at the next meeting.
