The Care of Coloitomiei arid
Ileostomies
One of the delightful fea
tures of writing this column
is that every so often some
thing that I have published
brings in very interesting and
helpful communications from
people throughout the coun
try. For instance, I just re
ceived a letter from Mr. Ar
thur W. Lissauer of 2322 Dun
dee Road, Louisville 5, Ky.,
who tells me that he is a re
tired chemical engineer who
has lived happily with a col
ostomy for nearly, 10 ' years.
It is now his hobby to distrib
ute a booklet on colostomies
and ileostomies that he has
written. He also makes appli
ances both for covering the
opening into the bowel and
for taking enemas. Some of
his surgeon friends feel that
his apparatus is the best now
on the market.
Dr. Alvarez' new booklet
on high blood pressure -may
be obtained by sending 25
cents and a large, stamped,
self-addressed enevelope with
your request, to Dr. Walter
C. Alvarez, Dept. MMT, The
Register and Tribune Syndi
cate, Box 957, Des Moines 4,
Iowa.
Dr. Alvarez hopes his read
ers will understand that it
would be impossible for him
to answer requests for infor
mation or to attempt to diag
nose by mail.

and Tribune Syndicate, 1 958)
Third Attempt at
Suicide Succeeds
Los Angeles -(UPB- John
Francisco Young Jr., 34, tried
to kill himself three times on
Sunday. He was successful the
third time.
D. E. Newberry, a taxi driv

hurled himself under a trolley
car stopped for a traffic sig
nal. Newberry said he pulled
the man out before the trolley
started.
As police searched for
Young, an ice cream salesman,
he threw himself in the path
of a truck but escaped injury
when the driver managed to
swerve and avoid hitting him.
The determined man was
killed minutes . later before
police could find him when
he dropped in front of the
wheels of a pasfenger bus and
was crushed to death.
