sought the aid of Mrs. Mont
morency. "How do you spell
wheatf?" she asked, and
followed with, "Now how
you spell loaf?"
"Making up a list of
things we need at the mar
ket?" inquired Mrs. M.
"Oh, no," giggled the
maid, and showed her let
ter. It read, "Hey, Mike: I
am happy to go dance with
you Satday. Wheat all my
loaf. In grid."
In their "Guide for Eachelors," Messrs. Cadwallader and Nudnick
remind readers there is one thing they can be absolutely sure of: "A
woman ia never more sincere than when she tells a millionaire she
loves nun."

Welfare Cases Show
Increase in County
Welfare cases have greatly
increased in three categories
this year, according to James
Pullman, administrator of the
Jackson County Public Wel
fare office, Friday.
Possibly the greatest in
crease is in aid to dependent
children, Pullman said. From
1955 through October, 1958,
cases in this category in
creased from 58 to 139. These
are all approved applications,
Pullman said. Cases in this
classification are expected to
increase another 30 cases in
the next two months Pullman
said.
Two main causes for this in
crease in cases of children
needing support through pub
lic funds are unemployment
and the breaking up of homes.
Possibly another reason is that
welfare department workers
are doing a better job in proc
essing applications, Pullman
added.
Another Classification
In another classification,
aid to the disabled increased
from 20 cases in 1955 to 71 in
October, 1958, the welfare ad
ministrator said.
The third marked increase
came in old age assistance,
which increased from 98 cases
in 1955 to 120 in October,
1958, Pullman said.
Lack of jobs was blamed
for the increases in the latter
two categories. Here, too, dil
igence in handling these cases
was responsible for the in
crease in number, Pullman
explained.
"The main reason for the
increase in number of the
cases in aid to disabled p:d
old age assistance is lack of
jobs," Pullman said. "Hard
times come and the children
are unable to support their
aging parents as before. Also,
jobs are given to the younger
persons instead of to the older
people when tougher times
come and the resulting job
scarcity."

cessions to 409 for the month,
of which 129 were children's
books, and 182 new titles for
adult readers.
All books added to the li-
brary, either by gift or by
purchase, are available to all
residents of the Jackson
County Library district, who
may obtain them either at the
Medford Public library head
quarters or through the near
est community branch.

form, include John Lusk and
his trio, Trick and the Tune
smiths, and Bill (Thunder)
Glomb and the Thunderbirds.
All are professional ; musi
cians, some having played
with well - known bands
throughout the country, ac
cording to Glomb, who is pro
ducing the show.
The public will be admitted
free to the concert.
