MEDFORD, OREGON, SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 195"

Southern Oregon college's 1958 homecoming was a gala time for both students and alumni. With the coming state centennial celebration and
"One Hundred Years of Progress" as the theme, the traditional parade, rally and bonfire, big game and dinners and other events were climaxed
with a festive formal dance in Britt ballroom Saturday night. Linking the past and the present, members of the SOC Lettermen's club entered a
float in the parade' which recalled that in 1898 the school, known then as Southern Oregon State Normal school,- defeated Oregon State college
6 to 4 in the homecoming game. Holding the sign are (at left) Charles Nevi, Grants Pass, and Dave Love, Mapleton, Ore. Jack Johnson, Wolf
Creek, represents the team of the past and Raymond Inlow, Ashland rancher, is driver of the old-fashioned buckboard which he loaned for the
parade.

Tradition dictates that a variety show, rally and bonfire precede the Big Game, and cheering students and grads gathered around the blaze on
Feller field in Ashland during homecoming festivities last week. Coach Al Akins spoke, the rally squad led yells and school spirit was whipped
up for the following day. Ona Liles, Roseburg, was bonfire chairman. When the parade lined up Saturday morning, one of the spectacular floats
proved to be the entry of the faculty. A stylized version of SOC's "Red Raider" had been turned out by the college art department and rode proudly
down the streets of Ashland.
Coronation of Queen Jan Burkhart, Grants Pass, November 5, officially opened the home
coming program. Queen Jan received her crown from Isaac McCarley, senior class president,
while Ray Weinhold, Ashland, stands at her right hand. Members of the royal court are (left to
right) Princess Honor Stansbury, Medford, Dave Jackson, Winchester; Princess Sue Burk, Grants
Pass and John Godlove, Applegate; Princess Lorna Vance, Roseburg, and Granvil Brittsan, Med
ford; Princess Sonja Smith, Jacksonville and Al Sodaro, Medford, Princess Carol Furre, Oregon
City, and Mervon Newell, North Bend!
