Firemen Extinguish
Three Area Blazes
Three fires were reported
to the Medford fire depart
ment Thursday.
A grass fire at 3716 South
Pacific highway burned ap
proximately two acres, fire
department officials reported.
The property is owned by
Fred Milledge The first start
ed in the grass near a sawdust
pile. One rural pumper re
sponded to the call.
Another pumper was dis
patched to 2161 Jacksonville
highway, where a grass fire
destroyed a smal shed. Owner
of the property, Teresina Bin
achi, told firemen that noth
ing was in the shed at the
time of the blaze.
At. 5 p.m. a truck was call
ed to 545 South Ivy st. where
a trash fire was burning. No
damage was reported.
Vandals Damage
Yreka High School
Yreka, Calif. Vandals did
more than S1,000 worth of
damage to the Yreka High
school building one night this
week, according to Siskiyou
county sheriff's deputies. '
Persons who entered the
building stole $10Q in cash
and smashed doors and broke
locks on desks and cabinets
in a thorough search of the
building.
Deputies believe that the
persons may have entered the
building during the junior
college class periods which
close at 10 p.m.
North Carolina Man
Placed on Probation
Harry A. Helmick, Greens
borough, N.C., was placed on
probation for three years by
Circuit Court Judge Herbert
K. Hanna this morning.
He was charged with giv
ing Luman's market in Med
ford a false check for $75 on
July 7. He pleaded guilty to
the charges on Aug. 7. Trial
was continued at his request.
Further delay was caused
by charges brought by North
Carolina authorities, of which
he was found innocent.

After Tiger Turns
Out Red-Nosed
A Medford man must
have been red-faced this
week after a certain tiger
turned out to be red-nosed.
Police said that the man
came lo the station asking
for an officer to accompany
him in checking out a toy
tiger in the rear window of
a car parked at Cubby's
Drive-In. 1275 South River
side ave.
He said he thought this
was the same tiger that had
been stolen from him two
months ago.
. The officer who went
along said that closer in
spection revealed the tiger
at Cubby's had a red nose.
The missing tiger, accord
ing to its disappointed
owner, had a black nose
and black ears.
