from the Hedrick Reds.
Mike Barnes scored for the
Blacks four times on 60, 40, 30
and 25 yard runs and passed
to Bob Walker for 30 yards
and another marker. Jeff Mon
roe tallied on a 25-yarder.
Walker kicked two extra
points and Pete Hinrnan ran
two.
Walter Verstrady -tabulated
on an end run for the Blues.
Defensive standouts for the
Blacks were Don Coltrane and
Barry Peterson.
Blocked Punt Helpt
Quarter counts were 13 to
0, 20 to 0 and 33 to 6. Hed
rick's Reds tackled and
blocked well and outplayed
the Whites much of the first
half but the Whites got a
second quarter touchdown
after Brian Porter blocked a
Red punt and carried the ball
to the seven-yard line. Cliff
Roberts carried the ball over
the goal and converted.
The Whites gained two
points on a safety in the
fourth canto when a Hedrick
player was tackled in the end
zone. The Reds kicked off
from their 15 and Cliff Rob
erts returned the ball for 50
yards and a touchdown. With
30 seconds left to play, Rick
Larson swept end to get to
the end zone. A pass from
Don Driscoll to Bob Harrison
converted. 1
Steve Toews, a linebacker,
and Jim Sheldon, a halfback,
were White defensive standouts.

Ninth Grade
Tips Crater
Denied a score on their
first effort of the afternoon,
the McLoughlin Junior High
ninth graders used a punt re
turn in the middle of the first
quarter to start the touch
downing in a 27 to 13 football
victory ' yesterday over the
Crater freshmen.
Jim Dexter faked a hand
off ' to Bob Schroeder, then
ambled about 60 yards down
the sideline to pay dirt. Good
blocking enabled him to get
away.
Crater tied up the fuss in
the early second quarter with
a pass for 25 yards, Gil Harri
son to Chuck Cavin and con
version by Jim Fowler. Then
Mac drove to the Comet four
yard line with some nice run
ning by Dan .Goghill and
George Clearwater. Pexter
scored from there.
The Bulldogs struck again
in the third quarter. Steve
Kehoe packed the mail from
40 yards out. In the fourth
panel Rex Nicodemus circled
end and ran 15 yards for a
touchdown. Fowler got the
second TD for Crater, going
three yards on a dive play.
Huffman, on a pass from
Clearwater and Dexter and
Nicodemus converted for Mac.
Fowler was top defensive
man for the Comets while
Monte Jones, Joe Griffin,
Merle Guches, Larry Plank
enhorn and Kehoe drew par
ticular praise for chores for
the Bulldogs.

Grants Pass 26 to 7 and to
Medford 26 to 0 in District
6A-1. Klamath fell before GP
32 to 0 and before the Black
Tornado 53 to 0.
In scrimmage yardage Cra
ter gained 258 against Grants
Pass and yielded 286 net to
the Cavemen while Klamath
netted only 44 against GP and
were pushed back for 378.
Against Medford, Crater got
128 yards to the Tornado's
350. Klamath, meeting the
Tornado compiled a 78 net
and gave up 443.
In nbn league play Klamath
defeated South Eugene 12 to
7, a team which later lost 25
to 0 to Cottage Grove. Crater
downed Cottage Grove 19
to 0.
Crater has run up 152
points in seven games this
season to 123 for rivals. Klam
ath in seven has compiled
only 25 markers while rivals
have totaled 198.
The Comets had their final
practice of the fall yesterday
and made it a session of fun
as well as work and they
went through pass patterns
and signal drill. The drill was
dismissed early.
Crater will meet a Klamath
crew battered up by injuries
but should be in pretty good
shape itself. Coach Leonard
Warren said that he thought
defensive end Derell William
son, who suffered a knee in
jury in the Ashland game,
will be able to play.
For the Comets the tangle
means the difference between
a winning season and a break
even one. Crater has four
wins and three losses so far
this season and also needs a
victory tonight to come out
even in league play. The Cen
tral Pointers are 1-2 jnthe
circuit.

The Eagles are heavily fa
vored to bounce the cellarite
Chiefs and to claim the Rogue
banner with five victories and
no losses. Henley, hoping,
nevertheless, for an Eagle set
back, will go into its conflict
knowing whether or not it is
still in the running for a con
ference co-title. Henley has
lost only to Eagle Point in the
circuit.
Earlier in the campaign
Henley would have been the
favorite. But Phoenix has
come along fast recently and
the fray can now be regarded
as a toss up.
Coach Jack Woodward has
pronounced the Phoenix Pi
rates in good shape for the
effort to spoil the Hornet
homecoming. The Pirates have
had little scrimmage this
week but there's been a lot of
individual contact work. Pass
defense has had some atten
tion. The usual Pirate, starting
team is expected to take the
field first but the second unit
should see quite a bit of serv
ice. Likely starters are Dave

lines, the Boston Bruins
haven't lost their scoring
punch.
Since the two have been
laid up with broken jaws the
Bruins have been beaten only
once in five starts with three
victories and a tie. Thursday
night they rattled in three
goals within a 91-second span
of the first period and went
on to beat the Chicago Black
Hawks, 5-2.
The victory gave Boston
undisputed possession of sec
ond place in the National
Hockey League race. The
Bruins had been tied with the
New York Rangers before
Thursday night's action, but
the Detroit Red Wings scored
in every period in the only
other game played to hand
the visiting Rangers a 4-1 loss.
