Butte Falls Library
Moves Into Space
in New City Hall
The Butte Falls library, an
agency of the Jackson county
library, has been moved into
new quarters in the recently
completed city hall and li
brary building on the main
street opposite the city park
Mrs. Kizzie Edmondson, li
brarian, reported that addi
tional shelving is planned to
take full advantage of the
more spacious quarters so that
a larger selection of books
may be available for .Butte
Falls readers.
The present collection of
approximately 600 volumes
will be increased to 1.000 as
soon as the shelving is ready
to accommodate the added
books, according to Jackson
County Library Director
Helen E. Webster.
Included will be more
books for adult, children, and
young people, light and seri
ous fiction, and non-fiction
on a wide variety of sub
jects. A reference collection
' also will be provided, start
ing with a set of the Ameri
cana Encyclopedia which has
already been delivered to the
agency. Current periodicals
also will be available.

headquarters by the county
library. Housing, heat, lights,
and equipment are the respon
sibility of the community
served.
With the installation of the
Butte Falls library in its new
quarters, all community li
braries of the system are now
adequately housed. The Tal
ent, Jacksonville and Central
Point libraries also have been
moved into new rooms during
the past two years, and the
Gold Hill library has been ex
tensively renovated. In most
cases the enlarged facilities
have made ' possible an in
creased collection of books
and an increase in opening
hours.
The Butte Falls library will
be open Tuesday from 7 un
til 9 p.m. and Friday from 2
until 5 p.m. The hours will
be extended as library use
warrants.
Nixon Plans Flying
Visit To Alaska

Alaska, soon to be the 49th

honest.
Marian K. My husband
and I have been married ten
years and have four wonder
ful children. Our only prob
lems are financial.
My husband is the quiet
type and really should have
been a teacher or a profes
sional man. But he had to
go to work early in life and
wasn't able to get a college
education. As a result, he has
worked all his life as a sales
man and hasn't been too
successful at it.
Many people in the business
have told us my husband
knows more than anyone else,
but his problem is that he is
not aggressive enough. I have
urged him to be more aggres
sive and to follow a certain
course of action with differ
ent customers. I know my
suggestions are good ones, but
somehow things always get
messed up when Jonny puts
them into action.
Jonathan K. I know well
enough that I am not aggres
sive enough, but I also know
I can't do some of the things
the men in my business do
in order to get results. I don't
want to play holier-than-thou,
but the fact is by nature I'm
too honest and that isn't so
good in business.
Marian has some pretty
good ideas, I must admit. But
when I try to act on them
things go haywire. I feel like
a fool aooui it. sometimes
think it's all a matter of luck
and my luck is to be a failure.
Marian talks of going to
work in order to better our
income and give the children
more advantages. This kind of
talk makes me sick and gets
my morale down still lower..
I certainly dont want my
four kids running loose be
cause their mother has to go
out to work. .

verse form of coddling. The
victim of the needling enjoys
the pleasure of being punished
for his wrongdoing. Then he
may set out to do as he has
been told, but it is likely that
underneath he only wants to
prove nothing will help in
his case.
Jonathan is operating under
many delusions. One of the
most important is that he has
no aggressiveness. This can't
be the case. Every living be
ing has aggressiveness. The
problem is to employ it ef
fectively. We believe Jona
than is employing his to hurt
and frustrate himself.
Jonathan undoubtedly also
know that his pet notion about
being too honest doesn't hold
much water. We don't doubt
that honest businessmen often
lose out to the dishonest ones,
but honesty just doesn't hold
up as an excuse for, persis
tent failure. Jonathan, we
are sure, is equally aware that
the luck1 theory doesn't hold
up well either. The "breaks"
must sometimes fall to one
who is ready to receive them.
Jonathan should recognize
that he must be more honest
with himself if he wishes to
improve his lot. He can be
sure he has abilities. It is en
tirely up to him to find out
how to direct those abilities
to serve his best interests.
If he applies himself to some
constructive thought on this
subject, instead of whipping
himself for his "failure," he
will surely find more success.

Control of Delegation
Control of his state delega
tion to the national political
convention usually falls to a
governor. Thus he may influ
ence, for himself or another,
the selection of his party's
presidential and vice presi
dential nominees.
. Democrats now hold 29 gov
ernorships to J.9 for the Re
publicans. Of the 32 states involved in
the voting for governor on
Nov. 4-Maine's contest was
settled on Sept. 8 with the
election of another Democrat
-19 now have Democratic gov
ernors and 13 have Republi
cans in that office.
Twenty incumbents are
seeking re-election, 12 of
them Democrats and eight
Republicans.
