TABLE ROCK
Ranch Goes on Market
Br R. E. NEALON
Table Rock According to
T. J. Hight, manager of the
Hight Real Estate agency of
Medford, the largest farm
property, as to acreage and
facilities, in our community
has been placed on the mar
!
ket
This property is commonly
known as the Leverette hold
ings, but goes by the name of
the Table Top Ranch, and con
sists of nearly 2,500 acres,
mostly of rich bottom farm
land, with nearly a mile of
frontage along Rogue river.
There is a large acreage of
pasture land, some on the
slopes of Lower and Upper
Table Rocks, a whole section
on the latter.
The bottom lands are under
irrigation and produce crops
of grain, corn, hay, and clover
pastures. Some half dozen oc
cupied buildings, and many
barns and huge silos are on
the ranch. Two of the dwell
ings built in the early 80's are
still occupied. One, built by
Dr. Stanley, still has the med
icine chest over the fireplace,
where he kept his pills and
medicine.
Owing to complications and
restrictions, the vast holdings
must be sold as a unit, ac
cording to Hight, who says
that if he could subdivide it, it
could be sold in less time.
However, he has some eager
inquiries, and hopes to make
contact, in the not too distant
future.
A California moving pic
ture company made a movie
on the ranch several years
ago, claiming it to be a great
setting for such work. One
owner in the past sank a shaft
and found croppings of some
very good coal, another drilled
for oil, with a man-operated
churn drill.
On the west side is a monu
ment, erected presumably on
the spot where Gen. Lane
signed the treaty with the
Rogue River Indians.
The personal property, con
sisting of some 600 cattle,
great quantities of stored
feed, and farm equipment, do
not go with the ranch.
Pear and apple picking has
been completed here, and reg
ular winter crews .are busy
cleaning up and preparing the
trees and ground for next
year's crop.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Doran
have returned from Ft. Riley,
Kan., where they visited rela
tives at the Dale Schulz
home. They report a nice trip
with good weather both ways,
and Dale, Marsha and baby
Steven, doing fine.
Elgin Robinson returned
Saturday to Camp Pendleton,
Calif., to resume military
training, after a month's fur
lough spent with home folks.

The Arnold Bohnert clover
threshing rig has finished the
clover seed harvest here and
in Sams Valley, the yields
being somewhat lighter than
usual, it is claimed.
C. W. McDonough of Sams
Valley has been busy here for
the last few days harvesting
corn with his corn shelling
equipment.
deorge Guthrie, caretaker
at TouVelle Park, with his
brother of Eugene, were re
cent duck hunters in the Sum
mer lake area in eastern Ore
gon, where they both obtained
their limit of ducks. According
to Carl Bennett, assistant, who
had charge of the park during
Guthrie's absence, the attend
ance this year will exceed that
of last year, when more than
90,000 people visited the park.
Facilities at the park will be
closed Oct. 31, to avoid freez
ing, but the park will remain
open the usual hours.
Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Richard
son are in Portland, where
Mrs. Richardson is a patient
in the St. Vincents hospital,
where she underwent surgery
Friday morning.
At the last Ladies club held
in Ruth Brown's home, Nor
ma Matteson was elected pres
ident for the coming year, and
Joan Sharp secretary.
To us, it is rather amusing
to see in print what our var
ious candidates think of them
selves. It seems that everyone
of them have had, so they say,
exactly the right education,
training, and experience to fit
them for the job they seek. If
they didn't have their pictures
along with the write-up, their
wives might not know who
they were reading about. Our
independent friend, says its
too bad both candidates for
Senator can't be elected. In
that case, one could prescribe,
and the other could hand out
the pills.
"Recent visitors at the local
Sunday school were George
McCune and Ed Newman, of
Medford, members of the Gid
eons, who were soliciting
funds for the Gideons' Bible
distributing program.
Hay prices here have taken
an upward spurt, those who
have hay to sell are asking $30
a ton for their best grade.
