ty, will receive the Distin
guished Service Award at the
Rational Home Demonstration
Agents' association convention
to be held at the Drake Hotel
in Chicago November 5.
The association traditional
ly recognizes one or more ag
ents for outstanding service
Agents must have a degree in
home economics and must
have served 10 years or more
in extension work.
Miss Wintermote has help
ed develop leadership work
shops for organizations, con
sumer interest programs, food
and autrition projects, espec
ially in weight control, and
has cooperated with health
and welfare service through
the school lunch program, the
announcement states.
After leaving Medford, Miss
Wintermote studied at Colo
rado Agricultural and Me
chanical college in 1957, re
ceiving her master's degree in
home economics. She then re
turned to Oregon and took
over the Linn county : work.
While in Jackson county, Miss
Wintermote was active in
many civic and service organ
izations. -
Warrens Return
From Trip 'North;
Attend Wedding
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph W.
Warren, 218 South Ivy street,
returned Thursday from a
weeks visit with their son,
Willis C. Warren, Portland.
While away the Warrens also
attended the" wedding of their
grandson, Lt. James W. War
ren of that city, and Miss
Evelyn Br&okens of Yakima,
Wash. The ceremony was held
October 11 in Englewood
Christian church, Yakima,
and the newlyweds are to
live in Steilacoom, Wash.

To Open
The Central Point Garden
club's show "Floral Beauty in
Wintertime' will be held in
the county courthouse audi
torium in Medford Monday,
October 20, from 2 until 8
8 p.m and Tuesday, October
21, from 12 noon until 4 p.m
A silver tea will be held in
conjunction with the show
with serving hours Monday
from 2 until 5 p.m. and 7 until
8 p.m. and on Tuesday from
noon until 4 p.m.
A large number of entries
have been reported by the
show committee. They stress
that exhibitor's name must be
on the underside of containers
submitted for showings.
The show, first of its kind
in the i valley, will demon
strate the versatility of dried
and treated material for use as
winter arrangements, wall
.hangings, and winter corsages,

To Hold School

from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Women from the Presbyte
rian churches in Medford,
Grants Pass, Ashland, Phoe
nix, Rogue River, Central
Point, and Jacksonville are
expected to attend.
Although the school is pri
marily for present and future
officers the course will be in
structive for all women of the
church, it is said. It will cover
all phases of women's work
under the three departments
of program, fellowship and
world, service.
Arrangements have been
made by the host church for
luncheon which will be
served at a nominal fee.

Four new members were introduced at
the 1958 Founders' day luncheon of Med
ford Junior Service league. The new mem
bers are (left to right) Mrs. Thomas Spatz,
Central Point, Mrs. N. J. Wilson and Mrs.
James E. Curley. both Medford and Mrs.
C. David Fortmiller, Ashland. During the
luncheon, held at Mon Desir inn, the group
made plans for a champagne supper to be
held at Rogue Valley Country elub in early
November. Since its organization 11 years
ago. Junior Service league has carried on
an extensive program of civic and chari
table activities. One of the group's main
projects is operation of a kindergarten for
hard-of-hearing children. A full-time teach
er, trained especially in educating the deaf
child, ' is assisted by league members in
staffing the school.

foujth year this Halloween.
The Medford schools, men's
service clubs, parents and
merchants will cooperate, as
last year, withi the Medford
chapter of the Oregon United
Nations association coordinat
ing the program.

mittee encourage Medford
children to go to their schools
on Halloween, Friday, Octo
ber 31, accompanied by a par
ent or adult at 6 p.m. There
they will return to their own
neighborhoods to ring door
bells. Instead of the usual
hand-out these children will
collect small coins which pur-
chase food and medicines for
the children of the world.
This work in the past has
helped children in 95 countries.
.Mrs. Gibbons reported that
every nickle means penicilin
to free a child of yaws or a
glass of milk every day for a
month for a hungry child.

The importance of being
and voting Republican will be
emphasized by Floyd Wynne,
city editor of the Klamath
Falls Herald and News, when
he speaks at the meeting of
Jackson County Republican
Women's club tomorrow, Oc
tober 20, at noon, Girls Com
munity club.
Mr. Wynne is a former vice
chairman of the Klamath
County Republican Central
committee. He was a news
analyst and sportscaster in
radio for many years, having
been associated with stations
in Minot, N. D., Great Falls,
Mont., Indianapolis, Ind., and
in Klamath Falls. He has
served in his present city edi
tor post for two years.
During World War II, the
speaker served with the Navy
for 25 months of continuous
duty in the Pacific combat
zone and participated in nine
of the island invasions.
The speaker will be intro
duced by Mrs. Lester Adams,
chairman of the women's or
ganization, who will also con
duct a brief business session,

Handel Oratorio
To Be Produced
Ashland Handel's oratorio,
"Messiah," will be sponsored
by the Southern Oregon Little
Symphony orchestra in a per
formance Sunday, December
14, with a chorus and soloists
assisting the orchestra in the
presentation. The presenta
tion was announced by Dr.
Herbert Cecil, director and
member of the Southern Ore
gon college music staff.
The "Messiah" chorus will
be made up of the SOC choir,
directed, by Oscar C. Bjorlie,
and interested adults from the
community and surrounding
areas. The first rehearsal of
the chorus will be held Sun
day afternoon, October 19 at
2:30 .in room 207, Churchill
hall. Anyone interested in
singing is cordially invited to
attend.

Mrs. Conwell described the
work of the summer institute
at the Oregon School for the
Blind, where parents are
taught to care for their blind
children. This institute is

Lion's club auxiliaries of Ore
gon. Mrs. Charles Kanewski,

of Latter-day Saints. Approxi

by Miss Patricia Upchurch,
Miss Fern Schaffran, and Miss
Jane Westover, classmates of
the bride at Medford Beauty
school. Miss Nancy Barnes,
sister of the bridegroom, was
in charge of the guest book.

Corrine Cook and Dalene

Mrs. Barnes who formerly
attended schools in Myrtle
Creek and Roseburg, is now
attending Medford Beauty
school and will' be graduated
in January. Mr. Barnes, a
graduate ,of Crater High
school in 1956, attended Ore
gon State college for two
years, majoring in agricultur
al education. He is now at
tending Southern Oregon col
lege at Ashland.

Woman Returns
From Trip Abroad
Mrs. Alvin Hiebert, 2510
Country club drive, returned
to the valley last month fol
lowing a month's visit in Eur
ope. Mrs. Hiebert, visited rel
atives and friends in Germany
and France who she had not
seen since 1948 when she
moved to Medford from Ber
lin. Mrs. Hiebert flew to Europe
and returned to the United
States in September by boat.
