OSC Scientists Set
Metabolism Study
Corvallis - (UPD - A team of
Oregon State College scien
tists has announced they will
use a $16,000 annual grant
from the U. S. Department
'of v Health, Education and
Welfare to find a sort of
"fountain of youth-" through
studies of metabolism.
Researchers pointed out
; that modern nutrition stan
dards, the basis on which
most people take their daily
vitamin pills, are based on
"average requirements." .
Robert W. Mason and Hugo
Crueger, physiologists; Ralph
Bogart, geneticist, and J. E.
Oldfield, nutritionist, believe
that new storehouses of
health, fertility and longer
life might be tapped by nu-
- trition geared to individual
V needs.

John Barrymorers
Body Not Cremated

John Barrymore's request
that his body be cremated
was not carried put because
his brother, Lionel, opposed
cremation on religious
grounds.
The revelation was made
' in a Superior Court hearing
when the former executor of
the actor's estate, attorney
Gordon W. Levoy, was asked
if he had complied with all
the directions in Barrymore's
will.
The hearing was called by
Levoy who sought to open the
Barrymore estate in order to
sell three of the great film
actor's pictures to television.
Levoy was asked about the
cremation wish by Judge
Harold W. Schweitzer at the
' request of attorney Sidney
Dorfman, who appeared in
behalf of John Barrymore
Jr., who is opposed to opening
the estate.
.'' Levoy said the actor was
buried in Calvary cemetery at
Lionel's request. John died in
1943.
Polaris Explodes '
Upon Launching
Cape Canaveral, Fla. - (CPB -The
upper half of a Polaris
test rocket popped off like a
giant champagne cork at the
instant of launching Wednes
day and exploded on the cape
a mile and a half away.
There were no injuries.
The first stage did not
leave the launching platform.
It belched flame intermittent
ly for six minutes.
The Air Force said the sec
ond stage, or upper half of the
Navy test rocket "was de
stroyed by the range safety of
ficer after it took off and
gained a few hundred feet of
altitude in an attempted
launching."
