Chicago - (UPD - Even in vic
tory, Woody Hayes couldn't
find much good to say about
his defending national cham
pion Ohio State football team
in his weekly appearance at
the United Press coaches'
"Wailing Wall" today.
"As bad as we looked, we
managed to win because we
kept pressure on them," he
said. "Our blocking was not
up to standard. It hasn't been
all fall. There was nothing
scintillating about that game.
We didn't make as many mis
takes as they did. We weren't
as good as we were a week
ago. We didn't get off to a
good start and we didn't have
the poise to get out of trou
ble." Even a loser had brighter
prose than Hayes. "I'm not

Minnesota said, "but I'm not

Eugene, Ore. - (UPD - Giving

held might Oklahoma to a
6-0 victory last Saturday.
And get this:
"If we h4 more vatssns

have gone the other way,"
Casanova said today while re
viewing the outcome. "We
missed a couple of good scor
ing opportunities because we
weren't consistent. But -we

The game evoked memories
of last Jan. 1 when Ohio State

but only a field goal in the
last period by Don Sutherin
pulled the Buckeyes out on

What about storing deer in

the deer season.

Michigan's Bennie Ooster-

John Halstead, Bob Johnson,
Dick Syring and Don Deskins,
for "fine performances," but

Iowa 'Deserved to Lose'
Marquette is a better ball
dub than it was in last year's
all-losing season, Wisconsin
Coach Milt Bruhn said. "We
had trouble the first quarter,
tut as the game progressed
we had it easier. We wore
them out a little bit and depth
was the difference."
Purdue was "improved

Jack Mollenkopf said, and
added "we did fairly well
We had too much power for
them and we were deeper,
with a better second or alter
nate unit. Rice needs a pass
er real bad, but they do some
things real well."
Iowa can have no pride in
its tie with Air Force, Coach
Forest Evashevski said. "Our
kids were awful flat," he said,
"and we put on the worst ex
hibition of tackling of any
J team I ever coached. We
should have got whipped. We
could hnve won with a field
goal in the last few minutes
and that's what we were try
ing for. We deserved to lose,
and I regard it as a defeat
But it was a make or break
game. Our kids could come
back now and we' could be a
pretty good team, or our sea
son could be gone."
Irish Will Be Stronger
Ara Parseghian, a winner
at Northwestern for the sec

Wildcats "moved pretty well
on the ground once we made
adjustments for a defense
they used that we didn't ex
pect. We did a nice job on
both offense and defense, and
their passed had been great
until we played them."
Notre Dame was "a little
better" against Southern
Methodist than against Indi
ana, Coach Terry Brennan
said. "We will be better be
fore the season is over, and
we beat a real good team Sat
urday. That Don Meredith is
as good a passer as there is in
the country
Ray Elliot of Illinois, disap
pointed by a second straight
intersectional defeat, said
"We really had two good scor
ing chances from the one, but
we didn't score. We did a very
good job the second half, but
the first part of the game our
line was sloppy. But we sure
were improved over the first
game, and that was a good
team we were playing."

Junior varsity footballers

Booth Deakins made the
