dent Eisenhower called the
Republican high command to
gether today in a White House
conference-designed to inject
a massive shot of enthusiasm
into the GOP congressional
campaign.
The Republican effort to re
capture Congress from the
Democrats was proceeding in
far too listless a fashion to
suit Eisenhower so he took
steps to do something about
it.-
Key Republicans Invited
He scheduled his biggest
political conference in months,
inviting to lunch the key Re
publicans from Capitol Hill,
the Republican National Com
mittee and the White House
staff men whose job is to
supply GOP congressional and
gubernatorial campaigns with
the necessary transfusions of
personnel, ideas and money.
Vice President Richard M.
-Nixon was prepared to give
the President and his advis
ers a detailed report on Nix
on's recent speech-making
trip to the Pacific Coast. The
vice president was in Wash
ington for a few days before
'undertaking another cam
paign swing.

Boeing 707 Tests.

can Airlines completed initial
tests Sunday on its new Boe
ing 707 jet airliner, company
officials announced.
The 707, the first of 50 to
be delivered to American Air
lines, Sunday soared into the
sky here after undergoing ex
tensive high speed taxi tests
On Jan. 11, 1959, the air-.
line plans to install service
between New York and Los
Angeles with the new plane
and two sister ships. The
same month, San Francisco
and Chicago are slated to get
707 service. By June, il959,
American plans to extend ser
vice to Washington, Balti
more, Dallas and Boston.
