Meeting on Course
Slated at Ashland
Ashland A meeting to dis

lishing a course or: series of
courses in accounting, market
ing, merchandising, and other
phases of business manage
ment will be held in Lincoln
school auditorium here Sept.
24.
The meeting is being spon
sored by the general exten
sion division of the Oregon
state system of higher educa
tion for personnel of local
business and industrial firms

Fourth Annual Field
Day Slated at CW
Camp White The Fourth
Annual Field Day of the VFW
department of Oregon will be
held at the VA Domiciliary
Saturday, Sept. 27.
In announcing the program
of events. Acting Manager
Banks I. Paul welcomed all
VFW post members and aux
iliaries in the state of Oregon
sponsoring the 50 or more
events scheduled. Prizes for
the first five contestants in
each event have been pro
vided. The program starts at 9 a.m.
and lasts throughout the day.
All activities under supervi
sion of special services have
been made available for the
contests.
These include horseshoes,
ring toss, basketball, archery,
bowling and special golf
events. Such indoor games as
pool, billiards, cards, check
ers and jig saw puzzle con
tests have been arranged. Out
board shuffleboard, darts and
hoop croquet for the wheel
chair men have been added.

In the afternoon, a variety
of special events is on the
card for the tallest member,
man with largest mustache,
baldest, oldest, youngest and
shortest member and the
member with the heartiest
laugh.
A decathlon includes fat
and thin man walking races,
paper plate throw, life saver
and honeymoon relay race
and other novel performances.
Entertainment will be pro
vided in the theater at 1:15
p.m. by the Camp White
orchestra and Eve Prentice's
accordion group, together
with the honored guests head
ed by Jerry Leibel, VFW de
partment commander, " and
Laurine Kell, president of the
VFW department auxiliaries.
Awards will be given after
each event and a trophy will
be awarded the section hav
ing the largest number of par
ticipants. Preliminaries will
be held this week prior to
the main events for the best
flower garden and in writing.
A member amateur program
is scheduled for Friday at 2
p.m. VFW Post 6412,. Camp
White, will conduct guided
tours for visitors. Lelia Birch
of the auxiliary is general
chairman. VA officials will
serve as judges.

Inquiries Already Received on New Counsel Service
At a meeting of the Jackson
County Mental Health com
mute Thursday, Chairman,
Miss Cfelia Walker called for
a report from Dr. Harry Dan
ielson regarding the volunteer
family marriage counselling
service.
He stated that the service
is set up and ready to func
tion. Some inquiries regarding
it have already been re
ceived. Those interested in
making use of the service
may call the Child Guidance I
Clinic office, SPring 3-3174,
for appointments with the
counsellors.
Since the volunteer service
is being set up partly for dem
onstration purposes the com
mittee regards the interpreta
tion of its work an important
part of their function. A
speakers bureau has been
formed with Lindsay Vinsel
as the chairman.
. Some counsellors, members
of the Mental Health commit
tee, and others will be avail
able to, explain the work of
the counselling service and
the more permanent family
counselling service which the
committee hopes will be org
anized later.
Another interpretive serv
ice will be available in the
shape of a mental health play
to be given before PTA and
other organizations in Feb
ruary and March. Mrs. John
Brandenburg has accepted the
responsibility of organizing
the groups to produce the

Injured in Accident
Delores Snead, 22, of Fres
no, Calif., was taken to Med
ford Osteopathic hospital Fri
day morning with leg injuries
after the car in which she was
riding was involved in an acci
dent on Highway 99 in front
of the Tucker Sno-Cat corpo
ration, state police reported.
She was a passenger in a
car operated by James How
ard Morse, 40, of 261 Mead
st., 'Ashland, which collided
with one operated by Robert
Randall Wilcox, 38, of . 28
Geneva St., Medford, accord
ing to police.
Morse was northbound on
Highway 99 and approached
another vehicle stopped -waiting
for a car to make a left
turn. Police said Morse was
unable to stop ' in time, and
swerved into the right lane in
the path of, the Wilcox ve
hicle. Police cited Morse for
failure to operate on the right
side of the highway.
SENTENCED AS U.S. SPY

lish soccer team trainer has
been sentenced to 10 .years
imprisonment on charges of
being an American spy, the
official Polish' news agency
PAP reported Friday. An in
dictment said the trainer, Ber
nard Zgol, made contact with
two American intelligence
agents during a trip to West
Germany in 1957. .
