Scientists Exchange Chicken Fore-Brain With That of Duck

of whether a

- Of greater potential for
people, probably, were the
experiments which preceded
the chicken-duck ones. In
those, the fore-brains of chick

in one instance the exchange
was between chickens of dif

Pending Cases
In District Court
Are Dismissed
Four cases were dismissed
in district court by Judge
James M. Main this week in
an attempt by the court to
close old cases that have been
pending for several years.
Persons who had orders
signed dismissing charges
against them included Sidney
Edward, Klamath, Calif.,
who was arrested Oct. 26,
1956, on a charge of driving
while driver's license was
suspended. Charges were dis
missed since the man is not
in the state.
Charges of driving a veh
icle without an operator's li
cense were dismissed against
Anita Lorraine Weeks, Butte
Falls, since she is currently
serving a two year sentence
in the state penitentiary, and
charges of operating a car
while driver's license was
suspended also were dismiss
ed against William Freeman
Scruggs, 136 Portland st.,
" Medford." "Further investiga
tion of the case by the dis
trict attorney's office failed
to find records that the man's
license had been suspended.
Also dismissed were charg
es of obtaining money under
false pretenses brought
against Leonard Claude Bow
en of Ceres, Calif.
Two men appeared in dist
rict court yesterday on
charges of driving while un
der the influence of intoxicat
ing liquor. Both men were
represented by attorneys and
were given until Oct. 3 to en
ter their please. They were
released on their own recog
nizance. The men, arrested by Med
ford city police, were Peter
Westley Welch, Portland, and

made to replace the hoplessly
diseased heart of a dying man.
It is utterly impossible now
because body chemistry em
phatically rejects "foreign"
parts, even if the parts are
net very foreign, having come
from an individual of the
same species. The rejection is
chemical, and the chemical
rejectors sweep down on the
"invader" part by way of the
blood, and kill it.
