Death Bullets,
Report Reveals
Klamath Falls, Ore. -tEPD-Myron
Barkley, 26, a part
Indian who confessed to the
fatal shooting of his half
brother, apparently killed a
Minneapolis, Minn., woman
with a stray bullet as she
rode in a car through the
Klamath Indian reservation
Saturday.

Klamath County Sheriff
Murray Britton said the state
crime laboratory in Portland
informed him Sunday that
bullets which killed Eldon
Cress, the half-brother, and
Mrs. Helen Frances Freder
ick son were fired from the
same 30-30 rifle.
Barkley was charged with
first degree murder in the
death of Cress. No charge has
been made in connection with
the, woman's death so far.
Mrs. Frederickson's death
was not discovered until the
car arrived in Bend at the
home of her sister.
The sheriff said Barkley
told him he wanted to "get
into court, get it over with
and get to the penitentiary."

Barkley, of Chiloquin, said
he shot Cress in the stomach
about 5 a.m. Saturday after
they argued. The Frederick
son woman died of a bullet in
the back inflicted as she slept
in the back seat of a car
which contained six other
persons. Barkley said he had
fired some stray shots out the
window of the car he and
Cress were riding in along
Highway 97 before he shot
Cress.
Oregon Traffic
Kills Two Men

A Portland man and a Gold
Beach man died in separate
Oregon traffic accidents Sun
day night.
Harold E. Woolley, 43,
Portland, was killed in a two
car collision south of Port
land. His wife, Dorothy, 40,
and Peggy Wilkie, 19, a pas
senger in the other car, suf
fered minor injuries. Leon
Conder, 20, Newberg, driver
of the second car, was un
hurt. Donald C. Greeves, about
35, Gold Beach, was injured
fatally when a car crashed
into an embankment just
south of Gold Beach on High
way 101. The driver, Jack
Vaughn, also of Gold Beach,
suffered serious injuries.
Greeves worked for the
Soil Conservation service in
the Gold Beach area.

Allen Tire Co. here was de
stroyed by a roaring fire Sat
urday. Three firefighters suf
fered injuries in the $75,000
blaze.
A Springfield fireman was
overcome with smoke and
McKenzie District Fire Chief
Tex Johnson suffered burns
on his face. Another fireman
from the McKenzie district
suffered burns on his arm and
shoulder.
Fire equipment from
Springfield, the McKenzie
district, Eugene and the east
ern Lane county fire district
were called in to fight the
blaze that leveled the one
story frame structure and
threatened nearby businesses.

Estacada (UPD Four men
who stole a quantity of pro
duce from Campennella's gro
cery on Highway 211 near
here escaped in a car amid a
hail of bullets fired by the
store owner early Sunday.
John Campennella, the pro
nrietor. told Clackamas coun
ty deputies the burglary was
one of several .at his store
within a week, with an esti
mated total loss of $150. He
said he fired the shots from
a ..22-caliber rifle just as the
auto was driving away.
