Utilities firmed but rails,
though several made' gains,
eased on average because sev
eral sold ex-dividend.
Steels, chemicals and metals
stood out in the main body of
industrials. These had gains
ranging to more than a point.
A long list of specials turned
in a good performance.
Bell Aircraft, which led the
market Tuesday on its new
rocket fuel booster discovery,
made a new high early in the
day on a rise of nearly two
points and then backed away
on profit-taking. The whole
chemical department ruled
strong.
