The Braves have a more

at as a result of Burdette's
7-3 victory over San Francisco
and probably will have to
wait a little longer to uncork

Tactics of Pro Baseball

of the nation's top college
coaches and athletic directors
have condemned attempts by
professional baseball to give
student athletes scholarships
and tie them up before they
graduate.
The athletic officials were
delegates to the National Col
legiate Athletic association's
"conference of conferences"
which concluded here Tues
day. They recommended the
NCAA approve legislation
preventing such scholarships
at its meeting next January.

ated. Jim Clark, offensive
quarterback, was a defensive
stalwart in 1957.
Among the ends, Pete Ras
mussen saw a good deal of
action both on offense and
defense while Lowell Dean
was a regular defender in the
late campaign and is being
counted on for offensive tlay
also this year. Gary Wine
trout, a tackle, was in the
line-up for quite a bit of de
fensive play in 1957. '
In addition to the lettermen
Spiegelberg is counting on
help from gridders with jun
ior varsity - experience.- The
Black- Tornado has a good
amount of promising raw ma
terial up from McLoughlin

Shows Speed .
Halfback Don Peek, who
did not turn out last season
after playing jayvee ball in
1956, has impressed the men
tors with his speed. He dis
played his sprint ability last
spring as a late addition to
the -track squad.
The squad has some big
men such as tackle Winetrout
and Monte Penwell there is a
host of smaller aspirants, too.
Spiegelberg anticipates that
his 1958 edition of the Tor
nado , will . balance i out just
average in beef and heft.
