More Than 280 Animals Sold at
Annual Livestock Sale at Fair
More than 280 animals, in
cluding sheep, swine and
beef, were sold at the annual
4-H, Future Farmers of Am
erica livestock auction at the
county fair last Friday.
The grand champion beef,
which was owned by Judy
Bradshaw of Antelope, was
purchased by the Groceteria
for S766.50, or 70 cents a
pound for the 1,095-pound an
imal. A total of 85,570 pounds of
beef was sold at a price of
$25,614.09. The average price
per pound was 30 cents and
the average weight was 891
pounds.
There were 19,635 pounds
of swine sold for $4,842.24.
The average price was 24.5
cents per pound and the aver
age weight was 184 pounds.
Total weight of sheep sold
was 11,570 pounds, which
sold for $3,066. The average
price per pound for sheep
was 26.4 cents, and the aver
age weight was 92 pounds
per animal.

Overdue Ferry

- Thousands turned out
along the waterfront Tuesday
to cheer a ferry. Ship whistles
sounded and car horns blared.
The Canadian National
Railways' ferry, William Car
son, finally had arrived
more than .three years late.
The $11 million ferry had
been scheduled to run be
tween North Sydney and
Port Aux Basques. But, after
it was built, officials realized
the ferry was too big for the
dock here.
So the ferry was put on
another run and the federal
government started a three-
year program to improve- the
harbor. And, at last, the
William Carson docked here
on a test run.

Eugene Lineman Killed in Mishap
Eugene -UPD A lineman
for the Eugene Water and
Electric Board was killed
here Tuesday while working
on a utility pole.
A spokesman for the com
pany said Arthur (Red) Bar
ger, 42, Eugene, was repairing
a low voltage line when he
apparently came in contact
with the wires.
Barger was pronounced
dead at a Eugene hospital.
He is survived by his wife,
Veronica, and two grown
daughters.
