dine Rue and James Woods,
. which took olace August 2 at
8 o'clock in the evening. The
Rev. Gordon Titus, pastor of
the church, officiated at the
ceremony in the presence of
a small group of relatives and
friends.
The bride, a daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Rue, was
given in marriage by her fa
ther. The Rues are former
residents of Hornbrook, but
are now making their home in
Seiad Valley. Stillwater,
Okla., is the home of the
bridegroom's parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Ira Woods.
Preceding the ceremony,
the Rev. and Mrs. Titus sang
a duet, and Mrs. W. A. Rut
ledge played traditional wed
ding music on the piano.
For her marriage, the bride
wore a muted beige faille suit
with white accessories and an
orchid corsage. Attending the
bride and bridegroom as best
man and matron of honor,
were Mr. and Mrs. Essell
Woods of Grenada, Calif.
They are the bridegroom's
brother and sister-in-law.
The new Mrs. Woods at
tended Hornbrook and Yreka
schools, and her husband at
tended school in Stillwater
and in Yreka. He is with the
U. S. Navy on the U.S.S. de
stroyer Brinkley Bass. When
he returns to his home base at
San Diego, his bride will join
him to make their first home
there.
A reception, held at the
home of her grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Gos
ney, followed the wedding
ceremony. Following a fam
ily tradition of many years'
standing, the bride's cake was
baked for her by an old fam
ily friend. Sergeant Sambo,
who has baked the wedding
cakes for-every bride in the
Gosney family for several
generations. What makes this
tradition unique is the fact
that Sergeant Sambo will be
98 years old next October,
and he is one of the very few
Indians.

gust 17 at the Grants Pass
City park. Committee in
charge of this event was Mrs.
Nell Faulkner, Mrs. Muriel
Shortridge and Mrs. Ruth
Simmons.
Among the guests attend
ing were Mrs. Marjorie Hop
kins, Reflondo Beach, Calif.,
her son, Alvin Pena and fam
ily, who have been visiting
here with friends. Mrs. Hop
kins is a former member of
Medford BPWC.
August 13 several members
of the Medford club attended
a picnic given by the Ashland
Business and Professional
Women's club at Lithia park.
In the Medford group were

Voda Brower, Mrs. Jean Mast,
Mrs. Ellen Lynner, Mrs. Anita

In Ashland Church Rites
Ashland The marriage of
Ruby Mae Gardner to Leslie
L. Martin was solemnized in
a double-ring ceremony held
at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon,
August 17, in First Presby
terian church, Ashland. The
Rev. B. J. Holland officiated.
The bride, who taught in
Briscoe school, Ashland, last
year, is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Porter John Gard
ner, Lakeport, Calif. The
bridegroom is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Lee C. Martin,
Malin, Ore.
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride wore a full
skirted gown of Chantilly
lace and nylon tulle over
white satin and a coronet of
seed pearls held her finger
tip veil. Her bouquet was
a cascade of stephanotis,. a
white orchid and pink carna
tions. Mrs. Donald Blakely, the
bride's sister, was matron of
honor. Her dress was tur
quoise taffeta with a butter
fly bow in back. Her hat was
of matching turquoise and
she carried a bouquet of pink
and turquoise carnations.

velvet bows.

man, and the ushers were

Mrs. Colleen Lewis, soloist,
was accompanied by Mrs. J.
W. McCoy.
The bride's mother wore a
navy blue crepe dress with
navy accessories and a pink
rosebud corsage. The bride
groom's mother wore a navy
blue nylon dress with navy
accessories and a pink rose
bud corsage.
The reception was held in
the church. Mrs. "Raymond
Morris and Mrs. Oscar Bjorlie
were in charge of decorating
the room and the church. The
refreshment tables were ar
ranged with turquoise carna
tions and pink candles.
Miss Arlene Miller was In
charge of the guest book. Re
ceiving gifts were Miss Marie
Prescott, Mrs. Howard Lind
strom and Mrs. Forrest Camp
bell. Mrs. Bjorlie served cof
fee, and Miss Nancy Koch
was at the punch bowl. Mrs.
Walter Rutherford cut and

mer suit with pink and white
accessories and a white carna

is the son of the late Mr. and

bride's parents following the
wedding. In addition to the
dinner, a wedding cake and
punch were served.
The couple is at home at
12 Jeanette avenue. Mr. Kier
is employed at Bear Creek
Orchards.

picnic at Maple park, near the
National Guard armory, on

ginning at 12:30 p.m. Persons
attending are to take their

ern Oregon college and are
working on their master's de

Sorority Holds "
Kidnap Breakfast
A "kidnap-breakfast" was
held August 20 by Beta Upsi
lon chapter'of Beta Sigma Phi.
Doorbells started ringing
before 6 a.m. Tuesday when
officers of the club awaked
surprised and sleepy-eyed
members with a "come-as-you-are"'
greeting.
Breakfast was served on the
patio at the home of the presi
dent, Mrs. Richard Knoll As
sisting in the preparation and
serving were other officers,
Mrs. Max Larson, Mrs. Dale
Hogan, Mrs. Wayne Harris,
Mrs. Larry Horton, and Mrs.
Marsh Ramsby.
