Presbyterian Ceremony Weds Couple
An event of Saturday, Au
gust 16, was the wedding of
Miss Ann Denman to Clarence
W. Hultgren. The bride is a
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ken
neth G. Denman, 104 Geneva
street, and Mr. Hultgren's par
ents are Mr. and Mrs. Carl J.
Hultgren, Eugene. The cere
mony was held at First Pres
byterian church at three
o'clock in the afternoon, with
about 200 guests attending.
Dr. D. Kirkland West, the
pastor, read the double-ring
rites and Mr. Denman gave
his daughter in marriage. She
wore a floor-length gown of
Alencon type lace and tulle
over satin with long sleeves
and fitted bodice with Sa
brina neckline and bands of
hand appliqued lace. The full
skirt of tulle had front panels
of lace. Her finger-tip length
veil was held by a cap of se
quins and she carried a cas
cade of white stephanotis and
carnations.
Mrs. Monterey Hoist was
her sister's honor attendant.
Bridesmaids were Miss Ro
berta Maclver, Portland, and
Miss Susan Van Donge, Walla
Walla, Wash., a cousin of the
bridegroom. Their frocks of
powder blue cotton were
street length and trimmed
with embroidery and blue
velvet. They carried white
asters and blue delphinium.
Brother Best Man
Julian Hultgren, San Fran
cisco, served as best man for
his brother and ushers were
Donald T. Moltzau, Eugene;
Fred Terrill Jr., and Stanley
Samuelis, both Portland, and
Monterev Hoist, Medford.
Mrs. H. E. Marsh was at the
church organ, and Miss Janet
Jamison sang.
An arch of white gladiolus
formed a setting for the bri
dal party and baskets held
white gladiolus and laurel
branches. The pew bouquets
were of gladiolus and laurel
with blue bows.
The reception was held in
the church reception rooms
where the blue and white
theme was repeated in the
decorations. Mrs. Scott V.
Davis arranged the bride's
table and serving tables with
white asters, blue delphinium
and baby breath. The candles
were white. '
Aunt Serve
Mrs. Leland E. Bolt, Em
mett, Idaho, and Mrs. Bardel
Van Donge, Walla Walla,
aunts of the bride, cut the
wedding cake. Serving punch
and assisting with the serv
ing were Mrs. Lewis Ulrich,
Mrs. Justin Smith, Mrs. Allan
Perry, Mrs. C. Weldon Kline,
Mrs. V. Aubrey Norris and
Mrs. Julian Hultgren. Mrs.
Gaylord Hall, Portland, took
charge of the guest book and
Miss Carolee Van Donge,
Walla Walla, cousin of the
bride, served the bridegroom's
cake. Miss Janet Perry was in
charge of the rice packets.
The cake was cut with an
heirloom knife loaned by Mrs.
Allan Perry. It was first used
for the wedding of the late
Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Perry 60
years ago, and also for the
wedding of the Allan Perrys.
For the wedding and recep
tion Mrs. Denman wore a
gown of Paris blue lace with
accessories of dusty pink. The
bridegroom's mother wore
gray lace over pink with pink
accessories. T h e j r flowers
were small pink orchids.
Mr. Hultgren and his bride
are spending a honeymoon at
Payette Lakes, McCall, Ida.,
and will be at home at 10720
Southwest 30th, Portland 1.
The bride wore a blue suit
with white accessories for
traveling. She is a graduate
of Medford High school and
Willamette university and is
now a senior at the University
of Oregon Medical School of
Nursing. Mr. Hultgren is chief
therapist at the University of
Oregon Medical School hospi
tal. He is a graduate of Eu
gene High school and the
University of Iowa. He served
in the United States Air
Force as a second lieutenant.

home of the brides parents
Friday evening following the
wedding rehearsal.
Forbes- Wihtrom IV riding
Held in Medford Church
Among the many August
weddings was that of Miss
Carol Louise Wikstrom,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Al
vin F. Wikstrom, 2216 Del-
wood avenue, to Donn G.
Forbes, a son of Mr. and
Mrs. Carlisle J. Forces of
Kirkwood, suburb of St.
Louis, Mo. 'The ceremony took
place Sunday, August 17, in
First Presbyterian church
with a reception following in
the Wikstrom home and
garden.
Mr. Forbes and his bride
are spending a honeymoon in
Victoria, B.C., and will live
at 1443 Tenth avenue in Long
view, Wash.
Their wedding ceremony
was read at five o'clock in the
afternoon, with Dr. D. Kirk
land West officiating. Only
family members were present,
and about 70 guests attended
the reception, held at seven
o'clock.
The bride's gown of white
chiffon styled on Grecian
lines was ballerina length
with a wide band of embroi
dered lace at the waist. Her
shoulder-length veil of illu
sion was held by a tiara of
seed pearls and the pearl
necklace she wore was the
bridegroom's gift. She carried
a bouquet of gardenias cen
tered with pink rose buds.
Miss Virginia Larson, Port
land, was the bride's only at
tendant. She wore a sheath
frock of pink silk and lace
and carried a nosegay of car
nations and stock.
Mr. Wikstrom gave his
daughter in marriage, and
James G. Forbes, Eugene,
was best man for his brother.
Mrs. H. E. Marsh played
the traditional organ music,
and the church decorations
were white gladiolus. Ar
rangements of pink and white
gladiolus and roses decorated
the - Wikstrom home for the
reception.
Mrs. Frank Coberly, Cres
cent City, Calif., aunt of the
bride, cut the cake, with Mrs.
James G. Forbes, assisting.
Mrs. Henry Pence poured the
punch.
Mrs. Wikstrom wore a lace
dress of powder blue with
white accessories and orchid
corsage. The bridegroom's
mother was attired in a gown
of brown and beige embroi
dered cotton satin with beige
accessories; her corsage was
a gold and brown orchid.
Among the wedding guests
were the bridegroom's par
ents and his 85-year-old grand
mother, Mrs. John P. Bauer,
who came from St. Louis for
the event, the bride's grand
mother, Mrs. Frank Berdahl,
Warren, Ore., and her uncle,
Frank Coberly, Crescent City.
Other guests included Mr.
and Mrs. Ronald Knight,
Grants Pass; Mr. and Mrs.
Kent Bonney, Corvallis; Mr.
and Mrs. Arthur Fish and Mr.
and Mrs. Budd Franklin,
Weed, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs.
Richard Reedey and Mr. and
Mrs. William Mearns, Ash
land. Following the reception the
Wikstroms were hosts for a
supper for out-of-town guests
and relatives.. The rehearsal
dinner was given by the
bridegroom's parents at Mon
Desir inn. Earlier this month
the bride-elect was honored at
an afternoon shower given by
Mrs. Lloyd Wales, Central
Point. Miss Wikstrom was
presented gifts for her new
home and a bride's cake was
served.
The bride attended South
ern Oregon college after
graduating from Medford
High school and was an en
trant in the Miss Oregon con
test for 1952. She is a mem
ber of Sigma Epsilon Pi, na
tional honor society for col
lege women.
The bride has been a legal
secretary for the law firm
of Benson and Davis in Port
land. Mr. Forbes received his
bachelor's degree in business
administration from Central
Missouri State college and is
a member of Kappa Sigma
Kappa fraternity. He served
with the United States Coast
Guard for four years as a yeo
man, and is now employed
by the International Paper
company in the Longview,
Wash., office of Long Bell
Lumber company as a lumber
student.

Both Miss Gray and her
fiance were graduated from
the Medford High school. Mr.
Bates, a veteran of four years
service with the United States
Navy, is a senior at the Uni
versity of Oregon and is
studying for a degree in busi

Hatfield, wife of Oregon's sec
retary of state, was honored
at a coffee given Monday
morning in the home of Mrs.
Donald Geren, Agate road,
Eagle Point. About 35 guests
attended from Medford and
Eagle Point.
Pouring were Mrs. Earle
Jossy and Mrs. A. Wattenburg,
both of Eagle Point.
Mr. Hatfield is the Repub
lican candidate for the office
of governor, and was in Med
ford to attend a party rally
Monday night in Hawthorne
park.
. Mrs. Hatfield, was accomj
panied to Eagle Point by Mrs.
Roy V. Rickard, Medford, a
member of the Jackson Coun
ty Republican Women's club.

length, with ' darker green
cummerbund. Her headdress
was of white stock and she
carried a nosegay of chiffon
daisies. Miss Verlee Zemke
and Miss Marlys Whillock,
both" Talent, were brides
maids. Their frocks of pink
dotted Swiss were ballerina
length and worn with pink
cummerbunds. Both wore
headbands of white stock and
carried nosegays of chiffon
daisies.
Best man for Mr. Furry
was John W. Caulklns, and
ushers were William Kyker,
a brother-in-law, and Leo
Furry, cousin of the bride
groom. Miss Radine Chisum played
the organ music.
The reception was given by
the bride's parents in the
church reception room. The
church and reception decora
lions were arrangements of
pink and white carnations
with white candles.
Mrs. William Kyker cut
and served the, wedding cake
and Mrs. Raymond Zemke
poured punch. Miss Janice
Paxton took charge of the
guest book, while Mrs. Leo
Furry and Mrs. Michael
Wrede were in charge of the
gifts.
The bride's mother wore a
navy blue full skirted nylon
dress with white accessories
and her corsage was of white
gladiolus. The bridegroom's
mother wore a pink suit
dress with white accessories
and white gardenia corsage.
The newlyweds traveled
down the California coast for
their- wedding trip, the bride
wearing an aquamarine blue
suit with white accessories
and the pink corsage from
her bride's bouquet.
The bride was graduated
from Talent High school and
is employed by Robert J.
Kenney, architect, as a sec
retary. The bridegroom, a
graduate of Phoenix High
school, is with Southern Ore
gon Sales company.
Club to Meet
Fifty Plus club will meet
at 11 a.m. Friday, August 29,
in the Red Cross building for
their regular weekly gather
ing. Members are to supply
their own lunches.

Honored Guest
At Many Parties
Miss Susan Barnes, whose
wedding to Donald McLaugh
lin took place yesterday noon
at Sacred Heart Catholic
church, has been honored at
many parties in recent days.
Miss Barnes is a daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Charles W.
Barnes, 2895 Hillcrest road,
and Mr. McLaughlin's parents
are Mr. and Mrs. Louis Mc
Laughlin, 3384 Jacksonville
highwfey.
Mrs. Otto Frohnmayer and
her daughter, Miss Mir a
Frohnmayer, and Mrs. Wil
liam Barker and daughter,
Miss Jane Barker, were host
esses for a morning brunch
which complimented the
bride-elect. The party was held
at the Frohnmayer home, with
guests gathering beside the
svimming pool. Miss Barnes'
presents were in a small boat
in the pool. About 35 guests
attended.
A luncheon and shower
were given for Miss Barnes by
Mrs. Ralph Thompsen and
Mrs. John Cotton, the latter
of Ashland. The event was
held in the Thompsen home,
18 Modoc avenue.
Last Monday evening Mrs.
John S. Day and Mrs. Robert
W. Shepherd were hostesses
for the traditional spinster
dinner. The dinner was held
in the Day home, Gold Rey
ranch, and the guest list in
cluded Mrs. Barnes, Mrs. Mc
Laughlin, college friends of
the bride-to-be and her at
tendants. Mrs. Charles Walker was
hostess for a luncheon which
honored Miss Barnes, and
Thursday evening, Mrs. Cur
tis Barnes, aunt of the bride
elect, and Mrs. Dunbar Car
penter were hostesses for a
dinner. Guests were Miss
Barnes, her fiance, members
