and Mrs. Matt Mayerle re
turned to their home in San
Bruno, Calif., Sunday after
visiting at the home of his
brother and sister-in-law, Mr,
and Mrs. Joseph Mayerle, on
Springbrook rd.
Mr. and Mrs. Mel Verstegen
returned Monday to their
home in Metaline Falls,
Wash., after a week's visit at
the home of his brother-in-law
and sister, Mr. and Mrs. J. G.
Cameron on Roberts rd.
Miss Gladys Merrill, cousin
of J. G. Cameron, returned
to her home in Ely, Minn.,
Friday after spending two
weeks as a guest of Mr. and
Mrs. Cameron.

Two Accidents in
Siskiyous Result
In Two Injuries
Two persons were injured
In two automobile accidents
on the South Pacific highway
yesterday, state police re
ported. Slightly injured were Claire
Marjorie Ladd, 49, of Horn
brook, Calif. and William
Clifton Quails, Tucson, Ariz.
Claire Ladd was treated at
Ashland General hospital and
released and Quails received
a cut lip and stiff neck, police
said.
The Ladd car was involved
in an accident occurring near
a railroad overpass in the
Siskiyous. State police said
she lost control of her car
as it was rounding a curve,
crossed the other traffic lane
and struck the right front
fender of a truck driven by
David Melvyn Van Dusen, 41,
of Soquel, Calif.
Extensive Damage
Extensive damage resulted
to the Ladd car and the right
front fender of the truck,
police said. Claire Ladd was
cited for failure to operate on
the right side of the high-wav.
, A second accident occurred
on the South Pacific highway
about 9:25 p.m. in front of
Daily's motel in which Quails
was injured, state police said.
A car driven by Thelma
Grace Owen, 50, of Green
view, Calif., stopped on the
highway to avoid hitting a
dog. A car driven by Quails
stooned behind the first car,
and a car driven by Lola
Sarah Arr.ey, 43, of San
Mateo. Calif., failed to stop
and struck the rear end of
the Quails car and forcing it
into the rear of the Owen car.
Officers said minor damage
resulted to the Owen car, but
extensive damage to both the
Quails' car and the Arney
car. Lola Arney was cited for
vioiation of the basic rule,
police said.

straining them from using
non-union men to unload the

nask. The action followed a suit
filed by Carl Anderson, repre
sentative for the International
Longshoremen and Ware
housemen's union against the
Harvey Co., and the General
Ore & Chamical Corporation.
The ship is tied up at the dock
of the Chemical firm.

returned home Saturday night
after a two week's vacation
in Crandon, Wis. They were
met there by Mr. and Mrs.
Reuben Johnson of Phoenix,
Ariz., former local residents
who have spent most of the
summer traveling and visited
with the Icel Johnsons before
they left for Crandon.
A reunion of Mr. and Mrs.
Johnson's families was held
while they were in Crandon.
The .Johnsons stopped to
see their son, A2C .Walter
Johnson, who is stationed
with the Air Force in Wa
dena, Minn.
The Reuben Johnsons are
still traveling and will be
here again about Sept. 1 for
a few days stay with the Icel
Johnson family before they
return to Arizona.

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hall
of Milwaukee, Wis., were Fri
day evening callers at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Emil
Duwe, Springbrook rd., on
their way to eastern Oregon.
Hall and Duwe taught science
for 10 years together in North
Division High school in Milwaukee.

nesday from Ketchikan, Alas
ka, where she and her hus
band have been most of the
summer, to stay with her par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert
Grafton, and her son, Donald
Newman, Springbrook rd.,
for an indefinite length of
time. Pope is commercial fish
ing there, and plans to finish
the season before moving here
for a while.

the bench by a vote of 388 at
Lincoln High school here
Thursday night.
O'Connell was named to
the position by Gov. Robert
D. Holmes to succeed Justice
James T. Brand who re
signed. The nomination places
O'Connell's name on the No
vember Judiciary ballot.
