'Masquerade Party' Has
Embarrassing Moment
In Monday Night Debut

New York CTD "You

the summer
debut of "Mas

the night
wishes came
true. "Mas
querade Party," a show that
pops in and out of TV with
the regularity of little liver
pills, popped in again. Over
the past couple of seasons,
the show has been on NBC
TV and ABC-TV. About the
only outlet left is the Siamese
booth at the Brussels World's
Fair.
Painless Panel

Pick Senators
In Primary Vole
Charleston, W. Va. UPD
Two Democrats bid for polit
ical comebacks today as they
seek nominations for U. S.
Senate seats in West Virginia
primaries.
West Virginia is the only
state in the union electing two
United States senators this
year. The prize plums are the
unexpired two-year term of
the late Sen. M. M. Neely and
a full six-year term, both held
by Republicans facing no par
ty opposition for reelection.
Also at stake are West Vir
ginia's six seats in the U. S.
House of Representatives,
our of five incumbents have
no primary opposition. The
only incumbent with party op
position is veteran Republi
can Will E. Neal, who is fa
vored. Seek Short Term
Former Gov. William C.
Marland and one-time Cong.
Jennings Randolph aim for the
"short term Senate seat now
held by John D. Hoblitzell Jr.
Marland lost two years ago
in a bid for the Senate when
he was defeated for the unex
pired term of the late Harley
M. Kilgore. The victor was
Sen. Chapman Revercomb,
Charleston Republican.
Revercomb, unopposed on
the GOP ticket, is running for
reelection to a six-year term.
On the Dempcratic primary
Cong. Robert C. Byrd is fa
vored over Fleming Alderson,
of Charleston and Jack R.
Delligatti, of Fairmont.
May Be Dark-Horse
The Marland - Randolph
battle enlivens an otherwise
quiet primary in the "off
year." Some political observ
ers believe Arnold M. Vickers,
Montgomery lawyer and for
mer State Senate president,
may be a dark horse. W. R.
Wilson, of Fairmont, also bids
for the Democratic nomina
tion. West Virginia's Democratic
registration is about 200,000
greater than the Republican.
Latest figures show 660,850
on the Democratic rolls to
410,929 Republicans. "

roll, Eugenia Falkenburg and
Johnny Johnston. It was their
chore to guess the identities
of celebrities who showed up
in disguise.
'Among the celebrities were
Louis Nye, Poston and Don
Knotts and Peter Lawford, all
of them fugitives from NBC
TV and very nice of CBS-TV
to have them around, I must
say. However, their appear
ances made for some pretty
tame stuff.
Embarrassing Moment
Not so with the appearance
of another guest, Kathryn
Grayson, who was dressed as
a harem queen. Miss Grayson,
of course, is the former wife
of panelist Johnny Johnston.
This bit of casting may strike
you as a rather incredible
piece of bad taste, but then
the ways of show business are
mysterious and unfathomable
to lay people.
Anyway, Miss Grayson was
all ginger and jolliness with
the panel until Johnston's
turn came around and he
gracefully refused to play.
After that. Miss Grayson turn
ed kind of short and snappish
in answer to questions. I
would say it was an honest
excruciatingly embarrassing
moment for the viewer.
Not Ready To Pass
However, emcee Lewis was
not quite ready to drop it.
"I'm curious to know why
you passed," Lewis said to
Johnston after Miss Grayson's
identity had been guessed.
"Well, when you're married
to someone for five years, you
get to know their points
pretty well," choked out John
ston in part.
Miss Grayson playfully
swatted her former husband
on the cheek and flounced off
stage in the wrong direction
I guess in a way you could
say it was the highspot of the
television evening.
Lawyer's Take

Indianapolis, Ind. (UPD A

alleged affair with a younger
woman." '

defense," Symmes said. "Her

slugged her."

lieved Mrs. Nicholas probab
ly will be able to attend a
preliminary hearing on the
slaying charge Thursday. He

Speaking . to delegates at

The two unions are the

aganda battles.
McDonald said "there is
room for both, provided they
will cease raiding tactics and
work for the common in

Weakens Strength
He said their feud weak
