Wealthy Drug
Executive Slain
By Mystery Shots
Indianapolis, Ind. (DPD
Forrest Teel, 54, handsome
and wealthy internationally
known executive of a big drug
concern, was shot to death in.
a mystery slaying as he" drove
his white automobile in the
early morning darkness near
his fashionable home today.
Teel, an executive vice
president of Eli Lilly and Co.
and veteran of many years of
service with the firm in South
and Latin America, was killed .
by three bullets apparently
fired from another car as he
drove bis expensive car down
the street. -
No Answers Given
Police said Teel lived for 15
minutes after they arrived.
They said they asked him re-
peatedly for information
which might have led to his
assailant, but he did not an
swer questions. Officers im
plied he might have been able
tu name uia siaj Cl uclu lie
chosen to do so.
Detectives sought a blue
and white auto which wit
nesses said was seen parked
beside Teel's new car shortly
before the shooting.
Capt. Michael Smiley of
Indianapoli homicide division
refused to speculate on a mo
tive "We haven't been able to
establish anything yet," he
said, "except that the motive
was not robbery."
Wallet on Body
Teel's wallet, containing
$210, was found on his body.
Teel formerly lived in Cuba
and Colombia and traveled
widely in South and Latin
America for Lilly. He was
recognized as such a good
salesman and executive early
in his 32 years of association
with Lilly that he advanced to
president of Eli Lilly Interna
tional Corp., a subsidiary, and
later chairman of the subsidi
ary's board.
Witnesses said two persona
were in the car from Thich
the shots were believed to
have been fired.
Police said Teel was shot
three times, in the throat,
abdomen and left side.
, Teel's car veered out of
control after the slaying and
crashed into a utility pole.
South Dakota
Nation's Center
Heart of the Nation, SD.
(DPD South Dakotans were
pleased and proud today to
learn the new geographic cen
ter of the United States is in
their own back yard, even if
they aren't sure how to get to
it. . -
The new center of the na
tion is located in rugged ranch
country near a butte called
Two Top Peak, about 11 miles
west of Castle Rock, S.D.
In the last census of the
area, Castle Rock had a popu
lation of four persons.
The U.S. Coast and Geodetic
Survey computed the new cen
ter in anticipation of the addi
tion of Alaska to the Union.
The present center is located
near Lebanon, Kan.
State and local officials
were a bit skeptical of making
the site a tourist attraction,
once they located it on their
maps. Finding the spot on a
map is difficult enough, let
alone reaching the twin-top
ped butte by conventional
transportation.
The only access to the butte
country is by way of . wagon
trails over the prairie grass
land.
The land is owned by Dave
Kingborn, a retired rancher
who lives at nearby Belle
Fourche.
Onion Futures
Measure Delayed
Washington (LTD John
Jones, legislative assistant to
Oregon Sen. Richard Neuber
ger (D-Ore.); today advised ag
riculture officials that the
Onion Futures Trading Bill
is being held up in a Senate
House Conference Committee.
He said it may not receive
favorable action this session.
Jones said the two commit
tees held a conference m
Washington to review the al
ready Senate-passed bill, but
parts of the House bill seem
to have caused an impasse.
Jones suggested that per
sons connected with the onion
business immediately send
telegrams to Rep. Harold
Cooley of North Carolina,
chairman of the House Agri
cultural Committee, protest
ing the delay.
