Aaron did some pretty loud

Wheelers car club of Medford,
had a time of 109.79 miles per

108 plus mph. Piloted by club
president Charles Hewitt, this
Buick powered speedster also

emerged as top-eliminator
over all cars at the drag races.
Zombie is sponsored by the
"21" Club of Medford.
Dragster driver Noel Black,
still plagued by bad luck with
kis Oldsmobile powered drag

time of the dag before he was
forced out of competition by
mechanical troubles. His top
time of 121.62 mph was cer
tainly fast enough to awe the
several hundred spectators
vho turned out in spite of the
intense heat of the desert.
Black did register the fast

the SOIA strip. His time of
:11.09 is slightly under the
top elapsed time of last year's
ghampionship winner and
strip record holder, The Glass

Track standards were brok
en in a total of nine classes as
the days 98 entries turned on
speed to rewrite the record
book.
Bill Sherman from Crescent
City, Calif., set a new mark
of 89.28 mph in the "C" class
for stock cars. The old rec
ord was 85.71.
Coquille driver Pete Clau
sen pushed his 57 Chevrolet
up to 94.73 to set the top mph
in the Super Stock class. He
eclipsed his own best mark of
94.63 set at the last drag
races.
Medford's Eugene Cass
pushed the "E" Gas speed up
to 89.19 with his 55 Chevrolet.
Former record holder was
Bill Hoffman from Portland.
Ashland roadster driver
Louie Wolff gunned his "A"
Roadster 103.44 mph to bet
ter, his old mark of 102.04.
Wolffs best time with his
Ford powered roadster has
been 108.43 at Redding, Calif.
R. E. Rose, Medford, drove

is usually enerted in the local
hard top races.-
Wally Cannon from Ash
land established a speed of
103.44 in "C" class dragsters.
The old mark was 100.33 held
by the Ashland roadster trio
of Wiley, Webber and Perdue.
Fred Johns from Medford
gunned his 58 Corvette to
96.77 to claim the standard in
"A" Sports cars. In doing so
he broke his old standard of
95.84.
Grants Pass driver Les Fra-
zier revved his 1932 Ford
coupe powered by a Dodge
V-8 to a new "B" altered
mark of 89.46. He bettered
the 83.33 of Bob Meyers.
Potentially one of the fast
est dragsters in the North
west, the Roberts, Wiltse and
Mickle machine from Ashland
did not appear at yesterdays
races because new parts had
not arrived prior to the races
on Sunday. This fuel-injected
Oldsmobile powered machine

good to win the crown. After
a touch-and-go match Mrs.

Atlanta golfer.
Miss Suggs carded a 72 for
the final round and wound up
with 300 for the $7,500 72-hole
tourney.
Fay Crocker of Uruguay

Go Ahead in PCL
held Portland to a five-hitter
in the short opening game
and was backed by a three
run homer on the part of Bob
Prescott and a two-run blast
from Andre Rodgers as the
Giants laced the Beavers 7-2.
Then Rodgers belted a two
run double in the nightcap
while Phoenix trampled the
Beavers again. 10-3. Bill Wil
son added a three-run rourid
tripper in this one.
Vancouver fell back into
second place by splitting with
Salt Lake. The Bees won the
opener, 7-0, on Eddie
O'Brien's three-hitter then
George Bamberger hurled the
Mounties to a 4-2 win in the
nightcap.
Pads Fall Back
San Diego went stone cold
against: the Solons, .who
drubbed the Padres by scores
of 4-0 and 3-1 while Spokane
defeated Seattle twice in the
other twin bill, 7-5 and 3-0.
Ah Futility!
Talk about futility! San
Diego got 13 hits in its first
game but still was blanked
by the Solons. Robert Gow
man, with an assist from John
Kume in the seventh inning,
posted his seventh win of the
year. Dick Cole helped him
with a home run in the first
inning. It was served up by
Bill Werle, the enzzled south
paw, who took the loss.
Marshall Bridges followed
by winning his 12th game of
the season as the Sacs got
him ' single runs in each of
the first three innings. Steve
Ridzik was the loser in a good
duel.
Spokane wrecked Seattle's
winning streak at five in a
row by bouncing the Rainiers
twice. Norm Sherry and Jim
Baxes each drove home three
runs in the first game, Baxes
stroking all of his across with
a homer. Relief Pitcher Bill
George was the winner while
Bill Kennedy, the second of
four Sud hurlers to toil, was
the loser.
Dick Hanlon and Dick Scott
then combined to blank Se
attle in the finale with Han
lon getting the verdict. Rookie
Claude Osteen committed a
balk in the seventh inning to
help the Spokes get two in
surance runs. )
Rodgers hit his 25th homer
of the season in the opener
for Phoenix then Prescott de
livered with a three-run clout
during a five-run surge in the
second inning to start veteran
Vic Lombardi toward the
exits.
The Giants exploded for an
other five-run inning in the
night-cap and did it their first
time up to give Dom Zanni
PHONE
a nice cushion as he posted
his 11th triumph.
O'Brien held the Mounties
to three singles at Vancou
ver where Salt. Lake also used
a five-run rally; in the fifth
inning to sew up the game. A
two-run triple by Carlos Bern
ier featured the attack and
dropped Gordy Sundin to his
eighth defeat.
Bamberger, although pelt
ed for nine hits in seven in
nings, then hurled the Moun
ties into the black again. Man
ager Larry Shepard of Salt
Lake took over the pitching
chores and gave up a homer
to Barry Shetrone in the first
inning which had the Bees'
boss in trouble right away.
