bulletin published by the
Metropolitan Life Insurance
Com pany, I
now read that
each year ac
cidents take
some 13,000
lives among
our farm peo
ple. Accidents
on t h e farm
account for
lj a bo u t one-

fatal injuries. Most of the vic
tims are men. Accidents in
volving machinery, and par
ticularly tractors, account for
more than a third of the fatal
injuries.
What happens often is that
the tractor rolls over and
crushes the driver. Curiously,
drowning is the second cause
of death on farms. Most of
the victims are children.
Another great cause of acci
dents is a gun. Other causes
are injuries by animals, fires,
explosions, electrocution, and
lightning. In several of the
agricultural states, one of the
commonest causes of terrible
accidents to hands and arms
is the corn-picker.

Sidney S. My wife and
I have been married three
years, but for the past year
we have been husband and
wife in name only. We have
lived under the same roof as
a matter of convenience, until
certain problems are ironed
out and we can get a divorce.
My wife has been having
an affair with a married man.
As far as I'm concerned, that's
her business. What does both
er me is what is going to hap
pen to our 18-month-old son
after we are divorced.
Sandra says this man is
going to get a divorce and
they'll get married, but I've
spoken to this guy and I can
almost guarantee he has no
intention of going through
with a divorce. He is too satis
fied with his life as it now is.
I don't j want our son
brought up in an immoral
home. I tell Sandra she's got
to find a responsible guy who
wants marriage.

Sandra S. It's all very
well for Sidney to tell me
what to do to create the right
kind of home for the baby,
but he thinks because he is a
man he has a right to do
whatever he pleases.
He was the first to be un
faithful and has since been
running around with a whole
series of different women. He

sedative, such as chloral hy:
drate, that can cause a person
to go sound asleep. Some
years ago, in the San Fran
cisco Call-Bulletin, the col
umnist, H. Allen Smith, wrote
that a Mickey, properly made,
is really a powerful purgative,
which is designed to get a
trouble - making customer
out of the saloon as quickly
as possible. According to
Smith, its chief ingredient is
jalap, which is a powerful
purge. I, too, have heard that
the Mickey Finn is a powerful
purge, but I am sure that the
most suitable drug for this
purpose would be Croton oil.
This is so strong that only a
few drops of it will turn a
man inside out. Perhaps some
old ex-bartender will write
and tell us the truth about
this matter, and perhaps who
was the original "Mickey
Finn."
Dr. Alvarez hopes his read
ers will understand that it
would be impossible for him
to answer requests for infor
mation or to attempt to diag
nose by mail.

Sandra and Sidney should
be aware that if strict justice
prevailed they would both
be denied custody of their
child.
As far as we can see Sidney
is in no position to restrain
his wife from going her
merry, madcap way unless
he wants to fight for custody
of the child. Under the cir
cumstances, that would be
quite a fight.
Sandra may well be bitter
at Sidney's attitude, but the
fact does remain that she will
probably be the one who must
make a home for her child.
This is at least one major
reason why she has no right
to ride roughshod over law
and morality.
Instead of attempting to
pick Sandra's second husband,
we would recommend that
Sidney give some serious
thought to the question of
how to bring Sandra to a
complete sense of her respon
sibilities toward herself and
her child.
This calls for help from
someone with more moral
authority than Sidney now
has. This couple can well use
guidance from a clergyman, a
lawyer and a family agency
social worker.

There were no major ifs
and buts in Khrushchev's
worded message to world

Although Khrushchev was
accepting a Western proposal
it still was a personal triumph
for him. He has long sought
