Five Youths Held
For Threats to Man

teen-aged boys were lodged in
the county juvenile home
Thursday night after sheriffs !

ened a 58-year-old man's life. I
Deputy Sheriff Don Wright
said Clyde P. Edwing called
the sheriff's office and said
several youths accosted him
with switch-blade knives in
Montavilla park. Four sher
iffs cars covered the arrest.
Deputies said a knife and a
giant-sized pin were taken
from the youths. Three of the
boys wore earrings signifying
membership in an east Mult
nomah county gang, the depu
ties said.
Wright said Edwing did not
know any of the youths.

many Medco families on the
road. Vacation week began
June 28 and ended July
Mr. and Mrs. Don Jolliffe
and son, Greg, spent the day
of the Fourth at Lake of the
Woods with the Don Dunlap
family. The Dunlaps camped
the better part of the week at
the lake. . Mrs. Jolliffe and
Don are cousins. The Jolliffes
. and Dunlaps were among the
many spectators that viewed
the fireworks at the lake.
Sunday, June 6, the Dunlap
boat Sfcas rammed and sank.
No casualties were reported
in the Dunlap group and the
boat was raiseg.
Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Moore
took the coast route through
Crescent City" and Bandon.
While in Crescent City the
Moores met Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Edmondson, Mrs. Larry Har
. graves and son, Bobby, also of
Butte Falls.
Mrs. Ines Moore recently
entered Rogue Valley hospital
seriously ill. She is now at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Edmondson, c o n v a 1 escing.
Mrs. Moore is the mother of
Mrs. Edmondson and Clyde
Moore.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald
(Porky) Smith and family
went to Centralia, Wash., dur
ing vacation week. There they
visited with the Leroy Smith
family. Mrs. Porky Smith and
Mrs. Leroy Smith are sisters
and Porky and Leroy are
brothers.
Mr. and Mrs. Don C. Smith
visited at Weiser, Idaho, with
Don's father, Charlie Smith.
From Weiser they went to
Boise to visit the Wayne
Smith family.
The Don C. Smiths and Orb
Abbott spent the latter part of
their vacation at Brookings
fishing.
Glen Cathey and Walter
(Mac Frey spent several days
of their vacation at Reno.
Also visiting Reno were
Darwin Moore and Lee Ab-

Mr. and Mrs. Gene Irwin
and Miss Linda Ellis started
their vacation at Brookings,
where they visited with Mrs.
Irwin and Linda's parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ellis.
From Brookings, they went to
Depoe Bay, Astoria and Port
land. They visited Mr. and
Mrs. Lynn Kelland and. fam
ily at Portland. Mrs. Kelland,
Mrs. Irwin and Linda are sis
ters. From Portland the Irwin
group took the Mt. Hood loop
to Bend, where they toured
the Petersons' Rock Gardens.
This group wound up their va
cation week at Shasta lake
and Lake of the Woods.
Mr. and Mrs. Jess Rodgers
spent one night of the vaca
tion week end at Diamond
lake. The Rodgers had their
grandsons, Gary and Billy
Jess, with them.
The William L. Harris fam
ily started their vacation at
San Francisco. There they
took their children through
the zoo, park, Playland and
Chinatown. From San Fran
ciscothe Harrises went to
Saef amento, Lake Tahot, Car
son City and Reno. Their re
turn trip was made through
Chester and Mt. Lassen Na
tional park. The day of the
Fourth was spent at Willow
lake.
Mr. and Mrs, Robert Rodg
ers and sons of Pasadena,
Calif., recently visited Mr.
and Mrs. Bill Rodgers and
family. Bob is a son of the
ess Rodgers and a brother of
Bill. While here, Mrs. Rob
ert Rodgefs visited her brother-in-law
and sister, Mr. and
Mrs. Les Scott of Medford.
During their visit, one day
was spent fishing at Diamond.

Mr. and Mrs. Clint Dale and
son, Steve, of Eureka, Calif.,
were visitors over the Fourth
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Roger Harris. The day of the
Fourth was spent at Willow
lake picnicking and swim
ming with the Bill Harrises.
Mrs. Dale is a daughter of the
Roger Harrises and a sister of
Bill.
