Grange Team To Meet

Cave Junction A practice
session of the Illinois Valley
Grange degree team is sched
uled tonight at the Grange
hall.
On July 17 at the regular
Grange meeting,' candidates
will be initiated. All regular
Grange members are' invited.
Invitations are being mailed
to other Granges and any can
didates in Josephine county
are invited to participate
The Illinois Valley Rural
Fire department drove - into
Grants Pass -Monday night for
their regular meeting and
practiced with the Grants Pass
fire department in their drill
work.
O Mr. and Mrs. Don McClure
of Kerby attended the Grants
Pass High school class of '48
reunion July 5. Mrs. McClure
was a member of the class.
The Bob Lackeys of Kerby
are entertaining Mrs. Lackey's
three sisters and their fam
ilies from Texas this week.

from Denton, Tex., are Mr.

A family picnic along the
Althouse creek over the week
end was held by Mr. and Mrs.
John Smith and daughter, Mr.
and Mrs. Al Boucher; Mr. and
Mrs. Floyd Wells and grand
daughter. Terry Brown, .of
Vallejo, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs.
H. O. Smith and son's family,
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Smith and
children of Grants Pass; Miss
Margaret Morris of Bend,
Ore.; and Mrs. C. G. Morris.
The Monte Healds had their
niece and nephew, Suzan and
Richie Halm, of Grants Pass
with them over the holiday
week end.
Last week, Mr. and Mrs.
Richards Moyer from Sacra
mento, Calif., were house
guests of Monte and Joyce.
Mrs. Margaret Heald drove to
Sacramento with the Moyers
and planned to go on to Santa
Rosa for the summer.
Mrs. England's brother and
sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
George Gillespie and daugh
ter, Carol, of Gardenia, Calif.,
are guests of the John Eng
lands this week.
Scott Turner was flown to
Portland Tuesday morning by
Mercy Flight from Medford to
the University Medical hos
pital. Mrs. Turner will follow

brated the 80th anniversary
of its founding in September.
Western Union Told
To Produce Plan
Washington (UPI) The
Federal Communications Com
mission has ordered the West
ern Union Telegraph Com
pany to produce by Dec. 31
a plan for divesting itself of
its international operations.
The plan would become ef
fective within six months of
the commission's approval.
When Congress passed a
law in 1943 permitting the
merger of Western Union and
the Postal Telegraph Co., it
required a separation of West
ern Union's overseas business.
But the company has said it
has been unable to , find a
purchaser.
Jail Inmate, SI, 250
Sought by Police
Milwaukee (UPI) Police
Wednesday sought a missing
jail inmate in a $1,250 theft
at the drug store where he
worked as day manager of
the soda fountain.
A warrant was issued for
Elbert Lucas, after authorities
learned that Lucas was em
ployed in the store under a
state law which permits pris
oners to work days and spend
their nights in jail.
Lucas fell under suspicion
when police discovered the
store had been entered with
out force and the money tak
en from a safe tor which he
had access.
Lucas.' wife said he re
turned from work Tuesday
night and told her he was
sick of jail.
