MAIL TRIBUNE, Medford,
Today Is Deadline fo
Apply for SS Benefits
Today is the deadline for
workers disabled for a long
time to assure their rights to
benefits, according to the
local social security adminis
tration office.
Effective July 1, disabled
workers can be considered
disabled only within a year
prior to the day they apply for
disability status. This will not
affect those who actually were
disabled within that year, but
I will affect those who were dis
abled earlier and failed to
apply in time. -
Law Cited
The law states a person
must have worked under so
cial security coverage at least
5 of the 10 and IV2 of the 3
years prior to becoming dis
abled.
An applicant disabled sev
eral years ago but technically
granted disability status only
for the one year prior to his
applying would fail to qualify
under these limits.
Today, however, anyone
disabled as far back as Octo
ber, 1941, can still apply and
be granted disability status
