Hormones Make
Turkey Hens Happy
Madison, Wis. (UPI) Hor
mones are being used suc
cessfully at the University of
Wisconsin to make "broody"
turkey hens happy and pro
ductive. The injection of progeste
rone Hormone takes only half
a day longer to bring the hen
out of its broodiness than the
conventional method of plac
ing it in a pen without nests
or with wire floors and actu
ally saves work by eliminat
ing extra handling and spe
cial feeding. y
University researchers J. L.
Adams and p.. W. Haller said
broody hens were "discour
aged" after about 16V days
in their nestless pens while
hens treated with the hormone
resumed production about 17
days after treatment.
