Oregon.
While here the group will
attend the Talent 4-H pre-fair
to be held in the Talent city
hall Saturday, June 28, start
ing at 9:30 a.m.
Included in the pre-fair will
be exhibiting and judging by
the club members in livestock
and exhibiting in home eco
nomics.
Accompanying the Lincoln
county group will be Scott
CleVenger, 4-H club county
agent. Following their tour
here, they will return by way
of Crater Lake National park.

House Labor
Subcommittee
Resigns in Huff
Washington (UPI) A
House Labor Subcommittee
which has been studying Senate-passed
union welfare fund
legislation, resigned today,
charging it had been falsely
accused of stalling.
The five members quit en
masse at a stormy session of
the full Labor Committee.
They protested that a letter
Tuesday from eight commit
tee members had "impugned
their motives.
The letter, siened by four
Republicans and four Demo
crats, asked Committee Chair
man Graham A. Barden (D
N.C). to speed action on the
bill by the full committee.
They insisted further hear
ings were not necessary. But
they denied they were at
tacking the subcommittee's
motives.
Motion Approved
The row wound up with the
full committee urging the sub
committee to reconsider its
walk-out. A reconsideration
motion, offered by Barden,
was approved by a voice
vote, with no objections.
Subcommittee Chairman
Ludwig Teller (D-N.Y.) told
newsmen he was "inclined not
to reconsider" but would dis
cuss the matter with his angry
colleagues. '
Teller charged during the
meeting that the letter "cre
ates the fraudulent implica
tion" that the subcommittee
wanted to delay the legisla
tion.. .
He called it an "outrag
eous, unjustified ana un
gentlemanly attack" that was
"politically inspired."
Nixon Undecided
On Adams Effect
Boston (UPI) Vice Presi
dent Richard M. Nixon said
today" it was too early to tell
whether the Adams-Goldfine
case would affect the congres
sional elections this fall or the
1960, presidential election. '
Nixon talked with news
men at Logan Airport where
his plane refueled on a flight
from Washington to Portland,
Maine. He was to address the
Republican state convention
there. .
"I have found from past ex
perience that you can never
predict in June what the is
sues will be in November,"
Nixon said.

Three Youths Taken
Into Custody Here
Three- Medford juveniles
have been apprehended in
connection with breaking into
a Medford drive-in Wednes
day afternoon and taking
three candy bars and some
french fries.
The youths, two boys 10
and 11 years old, andan 11-year-old
girl, were taken into,
custody by city police after
Roy Phillip Carier, 725 Walk
er ave., Medford, reported the
Valley Drive-in had been
entered.
One window was broken to
gain entry to the building,
police said. The youths ad
mitted breaking the same
window last week, but re
ported that they did not enter
the building that time. The
case has been referred to the
juvenile authorities.

day told the. Senate Armed
Services Committee that Pres
ident Eisenhower's defense
reorganization program might
convert the Marines into a
"nonenity."
He said the President's
arguments that more' effi
ciency is needed in the armed
forces through "centralized
decisions" are at best "danger
ous half-truths."

Accidental Shot
Kills Dairy Girl
Klamath Falls (UPI) A
five-year-old girl accidentally
shot and killed herself with
a pistol at her home at Dairy,
southeast of here, Wednesday,
sheriffs officers reported. '
The victim was Barbara
Ann Rice, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Donald Rice, who
operate a dairy, feed and sup
ply store.
Officers said the pistol, . a
family heirloom, was kept un
loaded with two shells on top
of the refrigerator in the home
while it was being repainted
inside. They said : the little
girl apparently reached the
gun by climbing on furniture
which had been moved and
loaded it herself.
The mother was painting in
an adjoining room when she
heard the shot and , discov
ered the girl had been shot
through the chest. .

Youths Killed
In Aulo Crash
John Day, Ore. (UPI)
Two teen-aged youths were
killed and three others in
jured, one critically, in a one
car accident 12 miles west of
here today.
Dead in the crash were
David Lyons, 14, and Terry
Gentis, 15, both of Canyon
City.
State police identified the
injured youths as Steve Gen
tis, 17; Curtis Affeld, 16, of
Canyon City, and Robert
Frier, 16, of John Day, the
driver of the car.
Steven Gentis was flown
to Portland after physicians
here discovered he suffered
a fractured back in the crash.
-Officers said the car in
which the youths were riding
was going too fast to negoti
ate a curve and crashed off
the highway. The accident was
about three miles west of Mt.
Vernon, Ore.

Fees Increased
Washington (UPI) The
Agriculture Department today
announced an increase in fed
eral inspection and grading
fees of meat, eggs, poultry,
and miscellaneous other farm
products to meet operating
costs.
It said the increase was nec
essary to meet higher cost.
Grading services for meat
were raised from $5 to $6 an
hour. The rate for poultry and
eggs, which also covers do
mestic; rabbits, was raised
from $4 to $5 an hour. Other
increases affected grain
products, beans, peas, seeds,,
hay, fresh and processed
fruits, vegetables and nuts.
