Italian Court Rules
On Husband's Right
Rome (UPI) The Italian
Supreme court has ruled a
husband is entitled' to a legal
separation if his bride did not
admit to him before their
marriage that she was not a
virgin.
Such a case is even worse,
the court ruled Wednesday,
if the husband finds his wife
bearing a child by another
man with whom she had re
lations before the marriage.
The high . court's decision
reported in a case which did
not name the couple involved,
reflected not only the religi
ous teachings of this Roman
Catholic country, but also the
strong social stigma attached
to 'intercourse before marri
age for women.
Every Italian man, the
court argued,' has the right to
assume that his bride is a
virgin.
When the bride tried to
hide her deficiency in this
case, the court said, it created
an atmosphere which was not
conducive to the right atmos
phere for continued cohabita
tion.
