After a few innings of soft
ball between the scouts and
their dads a potluck supper
was served.
The Court of Honor was
called to order by committee
chairman, Leo ' Taylor. Bob
Hawkins, the Scoutmaster,
presented merit badges to
Stan Hobbs for photography
and sculpture and to Richard
Willarding for reading, fire-
manship, citizenship in home,
home repairs and sculpture.
Melvin Taylor was initiated
as a Tenderfoot.
Service stars for one year
were presented to Jimmy My
ers and Dennis Smith. Two-
year service stars were pre
sented to Richard Willarding
and Greg Faulkner and a
three-year service star was
presented to Stan Hobbs.

Five Air Force C-54 planes
are now being reconverted
into air-sea rescue planes.

Caretaker Dies At
Lake of the Woods
. Paul T. Throne, 56, care
taker at Camp McLoughlin
Boy Scout camp at Lake of
the Woods, died at the camp
early Saturday morning. The
family home is on route 1,
Gold Hill.
Survivors include his wife,
Frances, who is cook at the
camp. -j ,
Scout officials said Throne
and his wife had been at-the
camp preparing it for summer
use.
Throne had worked at the
camp for the past four years,
both in the kitchen and at
general maintenance., He also
had driven a school bus at
Gold Hill for the past 16
years.
Funeral services will be
held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Con
ger - Morris Funeral home,
with the Rev. 'Earl Best, Ruch
Community church, officiat
ing. Commital will be in Sis
kiyou Memorial park.

lowing a coroner's investiga
tion, it was announced Satur
day. The body will lie instate

Ex-Disc Jockey
Charged with Gas
Station Robbery
Seattle (UPI) Former
disc jockey Jack E. Simpson,
who disappeared while play
ing a game of hide-and-go-seek
with his bride of one week,
was charged Friday with
armed robbery after a gaso
line station attendant identi
fied Simpson by a wedding
picture.
Simpson, who came here
with his bride after their wed
ding in Yakima, is still at
large, although an all-points
bulletin for his arrest was is
sued Wednesday.
The bride, who at first said
she was 20 and later was
found to be only 17, also is
missing. She was wanted by
Walla Walla authorities on a
runaway charge.
Report Disappearance
After reporting her husband
had disappeared when the
couple began playing "hide-and-go-seek
in a vacant lot in
the Capitol Hill district here
early Tuesday, she . herself
disappeared. She had said she
was going to drive her hus
band's car back to Yakima
where the couple had an
apartment.
Meantime, police investigat
ing the robbery of a service
station near the vacant lot ob
tained a wedding photograph
of the couple, and the attend
ant, Fendrex N. Cunningham,
identified Simpson as the man
who had robbed him, and said
the girl had been in the sta
tion several times before the
robbery occurred.

On Council May
Resign Positions
Portland (UPI) All four
employer representatives on
the Oregon State Apprentice
ship council are threatening to
resign because of union dom
ination of labor in the council.
The council is the adminis
trative body for all appren
ticeship program in Oregon.
One of the employer repre
sentatives, Harry Heuer ofi
Portland, said he and the
others planned to submit their
resignations "in .several
weeks" to Gov. Robert D
Holmes. Other employer rep
resentatives are Bob Robson,
Condon, and William Oetinger
and Al Teller, both of Port
land. Asked to Refuse
After the employer an
nouncement, the labor appren
ticeship advisory council here
voted to ask Gov. Holmes to
refuse the resignations of Oet
inger and Heuer. The labor
group also decided to ask the
governor for the resignation
of State Apprenticeship Direc
tor A. C. Hoggan. The re
quests were forwarded to the
governor Friday, according to
J. T. Marr, executive secre
tary of the AFL-CIO Oregon
State Labor Council.
Marr said labor considers
H o g a n "unqualified" but
wants Oetinger and Heuer to
remain on the council because
"they are valuable members
and we need experienced
people."

Bids totaling $697,716.05
were placed for 26,246,000
board feet of timber offered
by the bureau of land manage
ment at its regular auction
June 12, according to Medford
District Manager Ross Young
blood. Competition prevailed for
each of the five tracts of tim
ber offered, with 107 bids re
corded for the largest one.
It was estimated to consist of
12,279,000 board feet pre
dominantly Douglas fir and
white fir. Purchased was Ko-
gap Manufacturing company,
Medford, at a total price of
$327,557.45.
' Kogap also purchased anoth
er tract of timber in Jackson
county containing 3,698,000
board feet. The sale price was
S10?.,082.10, with $36.40 per
thousand board feet bid for
the Douglas fir.
A. third tract in Jackson
county went to Olson-Ross
Lumber company, Medford,
for $143,647.10. .- -
High bidder on a tract of
2,906,000 board feet in Jose
phine county was Getson Mills
Inc., Grants Pass, with a total
offer of $72,509.55. ,
