Mrs. Jenny Young was
guest of honor at a party
Tuesday, May 20, at her home
at 908 West 10th st. Mrs.
John Burgess and Mrs. Thorn
ton Arnold were hostesses for
the event, which observed
Mrs. Young's 8th birthday an
niversary. Mrs. Young received several
gifts and cards. She played
a number of hymns on her
organ and several guests gave
readings.
Mrs. Young was born May
20, 1170, in Sacramento and
cam to southern Oregon in
1871 -with her widowed moth
er, M?. Matilda Estes, and her
ftrtftiparents, Mr. and Mrs.
Grimes. They resided
tsar Cranti Pass.

church in Seaside, Ore., was
the setting May 3 for the
wedding of Miss Feme Luella
Bush and Melvin Keith Ehr
lich. The bride is a daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond
Bush, 405 Earhart avenue,
Medford. The bridegroom is a
son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Ehrlich, Warrenton, Ore.
The Rev. Arnold J. Bush,
Seattle, Wash., a brother of
the bride, officiated at the
double ring ceremony held at
7:30 o'clock, in the evening.
The Rev. David Bush, mis
sionary to Ryukyu Islands,
gave, the prayer. He is also a
brother of the bride.
Pink Ester Reed daisies and
white stock decorated the
church for the ceremony. Mrs.
David- Bush, the Rev. and
Mrs. Garmond Mindt, and
Mrs. Arnold Bush sang three
selections with .Mrs. Mitzy
Ponsness as accompanist.
The bride wore a floor
length gown of Chantilly lace
and nylon tulle. The . fitted
bodice was fashioned with
long sleeves and standup col
lar and the bouffant skirt was
made of five tiers of lace. She
carried a bouquet of white
carnations. The bride was giv
en in marriage by her father.

ley, niece of the bride, were
bridesmaids. Little Faith
Marie Ehrlich, Salem, niece
of the bridegroom, was flower
girl and Daniel Ehrlich, Sal
em, nephew of the bride
groom, was ring bearer.
The attendants wore bal
lerina length gowns of blue
taffeta with net overskirts
which were caught with pink
rosebuds. They carried pink
carnations.
Miss Marion Joyce Bush,
Seattle, niece of the bride,
and Robert Jones, Warrenton,
were candlelighters. Miss
Bush was dressed as the
bridesmaids.
Norman Ehrlich, Salem,
served as best man for his
brother while Darwin Ehrlich,
Warrenton, and Harold Bush,
Portland, brothers of the
bridegroom and bride, seated
the guests.
Following the ceremony a
reception was held at the
church for 75 relatives and
friends. Mrs. David Bush cut
and served the wedding cake
while Mrs. Ponsness poured
the punch. Miss Barbara
Thomas, Seattle, was at the
gift table while Miss Patty
Hughes, Seattle was in charge
of the guest book.
Following a wedding trip
to the Oregon coast the couple
are making their home at
Livermore, Calif. The bride is
a graduate of Northwest Bible
college and was employed at
Rogue Valley hospital in Med
ford. The bridegroom attend
ed Oregon Technical institute
and the University of Cali
fornia and is an electronics
technician in Livermore,
Calif.
Mrs. Eve Benson
Medford Visitor
Mrs. Eve Benson, Portland,
who was an instructor in
dancing in Medford for many
years, was a visitor in the
city last week. Mrs. Benson
has taken an apartment at
the GeBauer for a month, and
is dividing her time between
Medford and Klamath Falls.
She left Friday to spend a few
days in Klamath Falls, where
she also formerly operated a
studio.
Last week Mrs. Benson re
called that her pupils gave
many recitals at the Craterian
when the late George Hunt
operated that theater, and
that some of her more talent
ed pupils performed at the
opening of the Holly theater.
Her pupils also played major
roles in two pageants given
at the Fairgrounds.
One of her oufstanding
pupils was Janet Reed, who
later studied in San Francisco
and New York and became
one of the nation's leading
ballerinas. Miss Red is now
teaching in New York City,
Mrs. Benson reported. Among
other pupils were Elsie Older,
Jewel Deter and Jimmy
Foster.
Last week Mrs. Benson
visited with the E. H. Hed
ricks, Mrs. Burton B. Lowry
and Mrs. Jack Swem as well
as other friends here.
Mrs. Benson makes her
home in Portland with a son,
Noel. Her second son, Gordon,
lost his life while serving dur
ing World War II.

Mrs. Una Inch Honored
By County PTA Counci
Mrs. Una B. Inch, assistant
superintendent of Jackson
county schools, was presented
a life membership in the Ore
gon Congress of Parents and
TeacTiers at a meeting May 21
of the Jackson County Coun
cil of Parent-Teacher associ
tions. Approximately 100 local
unit representatives attended
the meeting at the YMCA.
Officers for 1958-59 were in
stalled by Mrs. Leigh Gusti
son, first vice president of
the Oregon Congress.
Mrs. ' Inch's membership
was presented "in recognition
of her many years of devoted
service to. children and youth
of the area." She served as
an officer of the council when
she was teaching in the Butte
Falls schools.
Mrs. Owen Kunkel was in
stalled as president; Mrs. John
Huffman, Eagle Point, first
vice president; Mrs. Georgia
Smith, Phoenix, and Mrs.
Walter Doherty, Gold Hill,
junior vice presidents; Mrs.
Chester Keene Jr., secretary,
and Mrs. Riley Cook, Central
Point, treasurer.
Mrs. Inch reported on the
special education program
conducted in Jackson county.
The 1953 legislature estab
lished two classes in the coun
ty as a pilot program, and a
third class is tentatively
planned for the northeastern
area of the county this fall,
Mrs. Inch said. There are 36
children currently enrolled in
the classes in Talent, and test
ing indicates 155 children in
county schools are eligible to
attend. This number would
necessitate 10 classes in the
county.
This special education pro
gram is separate from the
classes conducted by the Med
ford district for the past sev
eral years, Mrs. Inch stated.
She described the mentally
retarded children being edu
cated in all these special edu
cation classes, thusly: "These
children are not different;
they are regular people who
only move more slowly in the
educational process."
Psychiatrist Talks
T. L. Goff, psychiatric so
cial worker for the Southern
Oregon Child Guidance clinic,
discussed the purpose and
function of the clinic in the
community. He stated that
142 children, 16 years of age
or under, were counselled
through the clinic last year.
These children were repre
sentative of all areas of Jack
son county, and the majority
were referred to the "clinic by
parents, schools, physicians,

juvenile court, public health
nurses and -' social welfare
workers. Financial support
for the clinic is obtained
through the United Medford
Crusade, the state, individual
membership fees, and counsel
ling fees, Mr. Goff said. The
scope of the work the clinic
can accomplish is limited to
its financial resources, board
members of the clinic ex
plained Counselling is pre
ventative work, they said, and
they feel that some financial
support on the county level
would markedly improve the
services available.

rected by Mrs. Leroy Jensen,
sang three light, popular se
lections. Accompanist was
Mrs. H. Chandler Drew. Mrs.
Jensen, who . has directed the
group for the past three years,
was presented a PTA service
pin by Mrs. John Hartsook on
behalf of the Medford PTA
Coordinating council.
Three group conferences
were held: (1) presidents and
program planning, conducted
by Mrs. Owen Kunkel, Med
ford; Mrs. Huffman and Mrs.
Gustison; (2) parent education,
publications and National
Parent-Teacher magazine, con
ducted by Mrs. Chester Fitch

have been in the news re
cently.
Miss Sally Joanne Elden,
Central Point, has been named
a member . of Talons, sopho
more honor society at OSC.
Participation in campus af
fairs and high scholarship are
required for membership.
Only one coed is chosen for
the honor group from each
women's living group on
campus.
Miss Eldon has also been ap
pointed to one of the top staff
positions on the OSC year
book, the Beaver, for 1958-59.
She will be assistant editor of
the schools and deans section.
Miss Elden is majoring in
elementary education. Her
parents are Mr. and Mrs.
Harry F. Elden of route 1, box
487, Central Point. .
Mrs. Gail Patricia Smith of
Central Point has qualified
for membership in the Oregon
State college chapter of Kap
pa Delti Pi, national honor so
ciety for students in the field
of education. '
High scholarship and pro
mise of future achievement in
the teaching profession were
considered in selections.
Twenty-seven students were
picked for the honor society
this year at OSC.
Mrs. Smith is a senior in
elementary education. She is
a 1955 graduate of , Crater
high school. Her parents are

lighter's summer production
"Laura", will be held Mon
day and Tuesday evenings,
May 26 and 27 at the Little
Theatre at the Fairgrounds
behind the Medford National
Guard armory. Tryouts start
at 7:30 p.m.
, "Laura" is a modern time
electrifying mystery with
many opptortunities for dif

women and five men ranging
in age from 19 to early
