Snider Spurs Dodgers to
Over Braves; Giants Go
By FRED DOWN
United Prest Sports Writer
One swing of Duke Snider's
bat was enough today to put
him back on the list of Buzzy
Bavasi's favorite players.
Snider, publicly blamed by
the Los Angeles general man
tger for the team's flounder
ing start, took his anger out
on the Milwaukee Braves last
night with a pinch double
that paved the way for a 6-3
victory. The loss knocked the
Graves into second place, a
jame and a half behind the
San Francisco Giants, who
beat the Cincinnati Redlegs,
4-2, for their fourth straight
win and 11th in 13 games.
Snider came through with
his big blow after Jim Gil
liam doubled with one out in
the 11th inning to put the
Dodgers in front 4-3, and they
added two more tallies on a
walk, Carl Furillo's single
and John Roseboro's sacrifice

lumbus beat Havana, 6-4; and
Miami and Richmond split a
doubleheader, the Vees tak
ing the opener 6-2 and the
Marlins winning the night

Rocky Nelson, always an
outstanding Triple-A player,
is demonstrating his slugging
prowess once again in the In
ternational league.
The tall first baseman hit
three homers during the
course of a doubleheader on
Monday as his Toronto Maple
Leafs split with Rochester,
winning the opener, 11-5, and
dropping the nightcap, 7-5.
Nelson, who has flubbed sev

down and wound up with a
two-hitter.
It marked only the second
time this season that the
Dodgers were able to put to
gether two straight victories
and left them two games be
hind the seventh-place Red
legs. Mike McCormick, 19-year-old
bonus left-hander, turned
in his fourth straight win for
the Giants with a five hitter.
Willie Mays had two doubles.
Hank Sauer blasted his ninth
homer and Daryl Spencer
had a double and a single.
McCormick, who won three
games all' last season, has
won four in 18 days, yield

hits.
The St. Louis Cardinals

traded to the Cubs Tuesday
for right-handed pitcher Jim
Brosnan.
"I had a feeling for several
days that I'd be traded and
now that the deal has been
made I feel great about it,
because I know I'll be able
to play regularly for the
Cubs."
So determined was Dark to
play for the Cubs, he flew
to Pittsburgh to join them
immediately after the trade
was announced Manager Bob
Scheffing of the Cubs insert
ed him in the starting line
up at third base in Tuesday
night's game against the Pi
rates..
Reduced to Benchwarming
Dark, who brought a .297
average to Chicago, had been
reduced to a benchwarmer
with the Cards. Young Dick
Schofield took over his old
shortstop job and Ken Boyer
was solidly entrenched again
at third.
"We needed pitching,"
Hutchinson said "and with
Schofield going all right, we
figured we could give up
Dark. We could use Brosnan
and the Cubs could use Dark.
That's all there was to it."
The 28-year-old Brosnan, a
six-foot, four-inch 215-pound-
er, is one of the hardest
throwers in the National
league.
So far this year, he has won
three games and lost four.
Last year, he had a 5-5 record
with 73 strikeouts, 50 walks
and a 3.36 earned run average.
