Mounted on a four -game
winning streak, the Lewiston
Broncs opened a margin of the
same number over second
place Wenatchee in the North
west league Sunday.
Lewiston nosed out Salem'
twice Sunday, 1-0 and 4-3,
while Wenatchee was splitting
a pair with Eugene, winning
the second of two extra-inning
contests, 4-3, after a 4-5
defeat in the opener. In the
other league contests, Tri-City
swept both ends of the twin
bill with Yakima, 3-0 and 6-3.
The Broncs from Idaho
move into Wenatchee Tuesday
for a three-game set that head
lines this week's series. Salem
opens against Tri-City tonight
and Eugene goes to Yakima
Tuesday.
Drives In Winner
Jerry Linnell singled home
the winner to give Lewiston's
Moursund his shutout in the
first game. And relief Pitcher
Don White made a virtual ift
to the Broncs of the second
game when, after Terry Burke
singled and was advanced by
a passed ball and then an in
field out, White wild-pitched
Burke home with the winner.
At Wenatchee, the Emer
alds scored twice in the top
of the ninth without getting a
hit. Two walks, a wild pitch,
fielder's, choice and a sacri
fice fly accounted for Eu
gene's winning runs. Joe Wil
son homered with a mate
aboard in the four,th inning,
singled in another in the sixth
for Wenatchee and Jim Pas
sila broke it up in the first
extra inning with a run-scoring
single with two out.
Helpless Yakima fell before
the four-hit pitching of Tri
City's Dick Connelly and Bob
Cleboski who came on in the
sixth inning of the first game.
In the second game, a six-run
sixth inning overcame a three
run Yakima advantage and
the Braves had their third in
a row.
