How to Get
a Summer

large corporation during Summer vacations from
high school and college, first as a personnel
clerk and later as an employment interviewer.
After leaving college, he served as a Naval
. " aviator and assistant squadron personnel officer
with the Sixth Fleet. Upon returning to civilian
life, he became personnel manager of a large
Chicago company and for the past three years
has done sales planning work that involves
training sales personnel in the appliance industry.

"Hvo bovs entered . the door marked
"Employment." Each wore
trousers and a tee shirt that had
probably been fresh hours before. Both
showed signs of tramping from office to
office without luck. One waited at the
door while the other came over hesi
tantly to the desk.
"Any jobs open?" There was a note
of despair in his voice.
"Not a thing," replied the man behind
the' desk without looking up.
"Look, Mister, we're both 18, honest"
The boy was obviously lying. "We're
looking for permanent jobs."
"Sorry, we have nothing at all," said
the man with an air of finality.
The boy shrugged and the two left to
continue their search.
In previous years, the boys would
have had one consolation. There was a
shortage of help and if they looked long
enough, someone undoubtedly would
have hired them.
But things are different this year. If
you are going to be a job seeker,, you
will have to be better prepared than
' these boys were or you'll still be look
ing for that elusive Summer job when
September rolls around. .
There will be some jobs for teen
agers this Summer, but those available
