Presbyterian Rites Marry Couple
Shady Cove Miss Carole
Marie Sheppard, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Sheppard,
Shady Cove, became the bride
of William D. Littlefield, son
of Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Little
field, also Shady Cove, in an
evening ceremony held May
9 in the First Presbyterian
Church in Medford. The Rev.
Ernest Evers, pastor of Trail
Community church, officiated
at the double ring ceremony
attended by 200 relatives and
friends. Red and white inter
locking hearts filled with red
and white roses decorated the
church.
Mrs. Richard W. Hart of
Medford played the tradition
al organ wedding music. Miss
Jo Anne Henderson of Eagle
Point was soloist.
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride wore a gown
of lace and pleated tulle over
taffeta with fitted bodice and
tiered full skirt with all-lace
chapel length train. The lace
jacket was fashioned with
Robespierre collar and long
sleeves. Her veil was held by
a rhinestone tiara and she
carried red roses, stephanotis
and lilies-of-the-valley encir
cling a white orchid on a
white Bible. She also carried
a white lace handkerchief
given her by Mrs. Scott Par
rick, one of the "grandmoth-

dale, Ore., cousin of the bride,
was junior bridesmaid. Flow
er girls were Diana Sallee,
Glendale, cousin of the bride,
and Debbie Young, Trail." Ring
bearers" were Debbie Wilson,
Shady Cove, and Alan Quail,
Central Point.
" Candlelighters were Miss
Susie Wilson, Shady Cove, and
Stephen Sallee, Glendale,
cousin of the bride.
The maid of honor wore a
red frock with white jacket
and white veil held in place
with white roses. The brides
maids dresses were dark red
peau de soie made princess
style with bustle back and
jackets. Their headdresses
were red veils held in place
with red roses, and their flow
ers were white carnations in
red heart shaped cups. The
junior bridesmaid, flower
girl, ring bearer and candle
lighters were all dressed, in
white.
Gerald Eastgate, nephew of
the bridegroom served as best
man and ushers were David
Schneider, China Lake, Calif.,
Charles Cooper, Ashland, and
Ronald Eastgate, Medford,
nephew of the bridegroom.
The reception was held -at
the church parlors, with 200
guests attending. Red and
white interlocking hearts
filled with red and white
roses decorated the rooms.
They were arranged by Mrs.
William Shepherd and Mrs.
Floyd Kelley, Shady Cove.
Mrs. David Schneider, China
Lake, was in charge of the
guest book and at the gift
table were Miss Suzi Chubb,
and Miss JoAnne Dickenson,
Shady Cove; Miss Mabel At
kinson, Ashland, and Miss
Sharon Mayfield, Central
Point.
Mrs. Chester Sallee, Glen
dale, aunt of the bride and
Mrs. James Hopkins, Shady
Cove cut the cake. Serving
punch was Mrs. Ray Briggs,
Shady Cove, and pouring cof
fee was Mrs. Allen Eastgate,
Medford, sister of the bride
groom. Music for the reception
was played by Mrs. Russell
Stelle.
The bride's mother wore an
aquamarine taffeta dress with
white accessories and orchid
corsage. The bridegroom's
mother wore a pink faille
dress with black accessories
and orchid corsage.
Following a wedding trip
to Lake Tahoe, Yosemite and
Sequoia National park, the
bride will make her home
temporarily with her aunt
and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. E. A.
Minter of Compton, Calif.,
while her husband is sta
tioned at Camp Erwin, near
Barstow, Calif. For her trav
eling attire the bride" chose a
navy blue princess dress with
white wool Jacket and white
accessories.
The bride is a graduate of
Eagle Point High school and
attended Southern Oregon
college, Ashland. The bride
groom is a graduate of Eagle
Concert
Set Tonight
In Ashland
Ashland Four choruses
from Handel's oratorio, "Mes
siah", will be featured in the
concert to be presented this
evening in Churchill hall au
ditorium on the Southern
Oregon college campus begin
ning at 8 o'clock.
The "Messiah" is almost
universally conceded to be
one of the greatest works of
its kind ever written. George
Frederic Handel, a German
composer who spent the last
40 years of Tiis life in Eng
land, wrote his masterpiece
in 1741 when he was 56 years
old. The text was taken from
the Bible.
"Messiah" was first per
formed in Dublin, Ireland, in
1742 and has since received
countless performances all
over the world. Legend has
it that at one of the early
performances of the oratorio,
King George II was so affect
ed by the singing of the
Hallelujah chorus that he
rose to his feet, the audience,
of course, following his ex
ample. Since that time it has
become traditional ' for the
audience to stand during the
singing of the Hallelujah
chorus.
In tonight's performance
by the Southern Oregon Col
lege choir and the Little
Symphony orchestra, four of
the best-known choruses
from Messiah will be present
ed. They are: "For Unto Us
a Child Is - Born"; "Behold
the Lamb of God"; "Surely
He Hath Borne Our Griefs";
and the thrilling Hallelujah
chorus. ,

orchestra conductor," extend
an invitation to all valley
residents to attend the per
formance for which no ad
mission will be charged. Con
tributions will, however, be
accepted for the orchestra

State Federation Grants
Charter to Medford Club
Medford's newest organiza-
tion for women was chartered
at the annual convention of
the Oregon Federation of
Women's Clubs held in Salem
May 6-9. The group, named
the Medford Travel Study
club, is headed by Mrs. Clay
M. Lee and the charter was
presented to Mrs. Vera Back-strom-Hausmann,
vice president.
The new club was organ
ized at a meeting held in the
Women's Civic clubhouse in
Ashland April 29. A consti
tution was compiled and pre
sented to Mrs. Carl Peterson,
Ashland, district president.
Other officers of the new
group are Mrs. Willis T. Fasel,
recording secretary; Mrs. Vin
cent N. Lobdell, correspond
ing secretary, and Mrs. Beryl
H. Lyons, treasurer.
It is stated that the club is
looking forward to an event
ful first year. The members
plan to develop a greater ap
preciation and knowledge of
the United States and the rest
of the world through a study
of books, current travel arti
cles, guest speakers, exhibits
and pictures.
This is the second feder
ated club to be organized in
Medford since the-first of the
year, the first being the new
Medford Junior Women's
club.
: Mrs. Hausmann reports that
this district was one of the
best represented districts at
the convention. Mrs. Walter
Brown, Klamath Falls, was
elected president, Mrs. Peter
son will serve again as district
president and Mrs. Hausmann
as fine arts chairman for the
district.
Mrs. Pearl Crouch, Ashland
Woman's Civic club, won first
prize for a poem, "Vesper
Peace." Honorable mention
went to Mrs. Gertrude Bart-
lette of the same club for a
poem.
First district delegates at
the convention were Mrs.
Peterson, Mrs. Ellen Hendrix
son, Mrs. Vern Templar and
Mrs. Hausmann, all Ashland
clubwomen. Oregon present
ed the name of Mrs. Marion
T. Weatherford as a candi
date for treasurer of the Gen
eral Federation of Women's
Clubs. The St. Helen's Wom
en's club was presented
$5,000 from Sears, Roebuck
and company and received a
national award for their ef
forts in making a park, clean
ing up city debris, supervis
ing youth activities and pro
moting many other projects
in that city.

Organized
The Rogue Valley Coin
club, newly organized valley
group, will meet Monday,
May 19, at 8 p.m. at the Girls
Community club.

On Anniversary
An open house Saturday,
May 24, will honor Mr. and
Mrs. Howard Taylor on their
4 0th wedding anniversary.

the Taylor's home, 515 West

tana Kay Emerson and Harold
Wade Houts at RemudS ranch,
Wickenburg, Ariz., on Wed
nesday, April 23. The couple
plan to spend the summer at
the Lake of the Woods.
The bride is a daughter of
the late Mr. and Mrs. Roland
R. Emerson, Medford, and is
a' graduate of Medford High
school. Mr. Houts is a son of
Mr. and Mrs. E. B." Houts,
Bullhead City, Ariz., and for
merly made his home at Mam
moth Lakes, Calif.
The Rev. B. A. Sullivan of
the Baptist church, Wicken
burg, officiated at the single
ring cerernony held at two
o'clock in the afternoon. Des
ert wild flowers and salmon
colored gladiolus decorated
the main lodge for the cere
mony attended by 150 guests.

piano wedding music.
The bride wore a. white
Squaw,dress styled with
scooped neckline and trimmed
with gold braid. Her accessor
ies were also gold and she car
ried a lavender orchid on a
white Bible. She was given in
marriage by Peter Fletcher,
manager of Remuda ranch.

ford, was honor attendant for
the bride. Bridesmaids were
Miss Carolyn Neher, Mill Val
ley, Calif.; and Miss Lillian
Hribar, Rock Creek, Ohio.
They wore Squaw dresses of
tropic green with silver trim
and matching accessories and
carried salmon colored gladio
lus. Little Elaine Echeverria
was flower girl. She wore a
tropic green Squaw dress with
silver trim and carried a bas
ket of white and salmon gladi
olus. James MacArthur, Remuda
ranch, served as best man
while Wayne Welch, Wicken
burg, and David Smith, Re
muda ranch, seated the
guests.
Following the ceremony a
reception was given by Mrs.
Sophie Burden, owner of Re
muda ranch. The couple trav
eled to Grand Canyon for
their wedding trip.
The bride was formerly em
ployed by Timber Products
and Medford corporation here
and is now child counselor at
Remuda ranch. Mr. Houts at
tended Anaheim High school,
California Polytechnic insti
tute and the University of
Nevada. He is now head wran
gler at the Remuda suest
ranch.
