Walnui Trees Need
To Be Pollinated 1
As a result of cold weather
none of the' walnut1 trees in"
the valley still ' have catkins,51
that part of the tree which
pollinizes the blooms, accord-;
ing to Clifford B. Cordy, coun
ty horticulturist. - 5
To insure a walnut crop,
tree owners shduld contact a
pollen producer immediately
and have them airmail the
needed pollen, ,he explained;
Since ' walnut ' tree pollen is
naturally - air borne, Cordy
said the pollen , may be ap
plied by airplane.
He said that this should be'
done within the next several
days or the' blooms will be.
too old, to .be pollinated. '
The agent , reminded grow-i
ers that" walnut trees should,
also be sprayed for blight at
this time'if blight has been a
problem in the past.
