San shepherd belonging to Mr. and Mrs.
Jack Bezoff, Willow Springs rd., Central
Foint, doesn't care to chase rabbits any
more. In fact,, all he does is lie around
the yard now, dreaming of the "good old
ays" when he was a pup. By human stan
dards he is the equivalent to about 120
years old. Shep also is getting a little deaf
and Bezoff, above, had to shout to get him
to shake hands for the picture. The dog
grew up with the Bezoff children, Terry
Lee and Jeannette, who are now 12 and
8 years old, and has lived with the family
in Weed and Klamath Falls before they
came here three years ago.

about the Alhambra than I
do because you have already
read Washington Irving'" fam
ous book by that name. I'll
read it when I get back. The
Spaniards here seem to know
it as well as Don Quixote.
But for those of you who
haven't read it, the Alhambra
is both a fantastically beauti
ful palace and a mighty fort
ress covering 33 acres. It is
so breathtaking that when I
heard the Duke of Welling
ton refused the gift of it, as
"impractical," I thought he
must have been out of his
head. The Spaniards offered
it for his help in driving Na
poleon out of Spain.
As for the underground,
that is literally what it is.

I refused to believe it, even

the caves which actually were

able. Our driver suggested
we go to Guadix. We did.
In that town, a few miles to
the northeast, there are some
10,000 troglodytes, people
who live underground.
Homes,- stores, taverns,
are beneath the surface. Only
the steeple of the church
sticks out.

One place we entered had

little danger from burglars
and the the only thing that
can burn is the furniture.
Their scale of living seems to
vary as much as surface
dwellers!
As we drove back to Gran
ada, I tried to imagine my
self getting a building permit
for such a dwelling in the
states. From New Jersey to
California, I could see noth
ing but puzzled disapproval
on the faces of building in
spectors and health depart
ment officials.

income 'tax increase in 1957, led the fight that reduced tax rates
in the 1957 Special Session. Senator Gill wrote the legislation in
1957 which removed the authority of the state to levy a property
tax. The 1957 Senate passed, by a vote of 29 to 1, the bill, authored
by Warren Gill, to provide a homestead exemption (but the bill
was killed in the House).
