The Jackson county sher
iffs office, criminal depart
ment, received 125 complaints
during April and closed 60,
according to Chief Criminal
Deputy Joe Walsh.
Sixty complaints are pend
ing of those reported last
month. Three complaints were
unfounded.
Of the total, 46 complaints
were for felonies, 20 for mis
demeanors and 59 involved
miscellaneous subjects. Seven
teen warrants were issued
and served this month.
Fifty-three arrests were
made and those arrested were
held in the county jail. Of
the total local, arrests, sher
iff's officers and state police
each made 19 and the Med
ford police department made
six.
38 InTolre Males
Of the arrests made, 38 in
volved males, five females
and 10 juveniles. They also
involved 18 felonies, 32 mis
demeanors, one mental case
and two runaways.
The 162 complaints in April
of this year compares to 118
in April, 1957, an increase
of 44. In April, 1956, 124 com
plaints were received and0113
in April, 1955.
Of the . felony complaints
received, 14 involved larceny,
12 for obtaining money under
false pretenses, seven for bur
glary, four for attempted auto
thefts, two involving issuance
of checks without sufficient
funds, two for non-support,
one rape case and one rob
bery, ne fugitive from jus
tice and two absent without
leave.
A total of 208 civil papers
were served, Walsh said.

Gives Testimony
Portland (IB Rolla J.
Crick, a reporter for the Ore
gon Journal, testified in a
deposition here Friday that
former district attorney Wil
liam Langley had one pur
pose in mind and Journal re
porters another when Lang
ley obtained a search war
rant for a raid at the home
of Raymond Clark.
Crick testified in connec
tion with a $200,000 libel suit
Langley has filed against the
Oregonian.
He said he and another re
porter, Brad Williams, were
interested in getting copies of
tape recordings on which the
Oregonian had based its vice
and "crime series in 1956. He
.said Langley wanted to ob
tain copies of obscene mate-
rial which a" phone call to
Police Chief Ellsworth Her
der of St. Helens indicated
might be in Clark's possess
ion. The raid on the Clark resi
dence was subsequently ruled
an illegal search and seizure.
FHA Gives April
As High Month
