The Retired Teachers' asso
ciation will meet Monday,
May 12, at 1:30 p.m. in Car
penter room, of Britt Memor
ial center, Southern Oregon
college. Music will be fur
nished by the college.
During the afternoon, fu
ture activities will be dis
cussed. If time allows, the
group will visit interesting
:spots around the campus.

Sewing Contest
Winner Named
Mrs. Evelyn Sisemore, 401
South Fifth street, Jackson
ville, won the local Singer
Sewing contest for a dress she
made recently. She was pre
sented with a fitted scissors
set.
The dress will be sent to
Seattle where it will be judg
ed in the regional contest.
Regional winners will attend
the grand sew off in New
York next month.

Sunshine Girls
Present Program
At Lodge Session
A Mothers' day program
was presented by several Sun
shine Girls at a meeting of
Pythian Sisters held Tuesday
evening.
During the meeting, plants
were, presented to Mrs. Rosa
Young, Mrs. Roy Jackson,
Mrs. George Thomas, Mrs.
Edward Bostwick, Mrs. Leila
Walt and Mrs. Carl Fichtner
representing the youngest and
oldest mothers, grandmother
with most children, etc. Mrs.
Young won a prize.
Mrs. Don Ross and Mrs.
Arnold Motschenbacher were
appointed to take charge of
the next birthday meeting in
June.
It was announced Boy
Scout Troop 16 is collecting
old newspapers and those
having any to contribute are
asked to contact Scoutmaster

supreme convention and
members are asked to present
any suggestions at the next
meeting.
The refreshment committee
for the evening was Mrs.
Emilie Conrad and Mrs. Leila
Walt. The committee for next
time will be Mrs. George

Past Chiefs' club of the
Pythian Sisters met last Wed
nesday at 1 o'clock at the
home of Mrs. Ida Ireland for
a covered dish luncheon.
A report was made by Mrs.
Harry Bryant on the final
results of the local radio con
test and she presented the
president, Mrs. Leroy Cline,
a gift in connection with the
contest.
Mrs. Mabel Nicholson re
ported on the progress of the
candy sale and any members
desiring some to sell are
asked to contact Mrs. Nichol
son or Mrs. Cline.
The next meeting will be
at the home of Mrs. Joe Cook
at 1 o'clock for a covered dish
luncheon.
Pythian club will meet
Tuesday at 8 p.m. at the home
of Mrs. Audley White, 523

barn scene and add a bit of atmosphere to
the building where weekly dances are

matrons, served as hostesses
and escorts for the honored
members. Mrs. Frink escorted
her mother, Mrs. Stoddard.
Also honored was Mrs. E.
M. Wilson on her 25th anni
versary as worthy matron of
Reames chapter. She was pre
sented an anniversary pin by
the chapter's worthy matron
and patron, Mr. and Mrs. Mor
ris Boughner. She was es
c o r t e d by Mrs. Cornelia
Barnes, who was wotrhy ma
tron in 1932 at the time Mrs.
Wilson was associate matron.
Mrs. Barnes received her 25th
anniversary pin last year.
Entertainment was furnish
ed during the evening under
the direction of Mrs. H. F.
Nordwick, program chairman,
and featured V. A. Thompson
and Ross Gilkinson in a hu
morous skit. They were as
sisted by a group of Courtesy
Ladies. The Shrine Chanters
also sang several numbers.

club will hold a square dance
Saturday, May 17, at 8:30 p.m.
in the - Old Wagner Creek
school in observance of their
third anniversary; The school
is- located two miles west of
Talent on Wagner Creek road.
An Italian spaghetti dinner
will be held at 11 p.m. All
square dancers . in the area
are-invited to attend.
The school, abandoned some
six years ago, has been reno
vated by the club through the
cooperation of Superintendent
Ernest James and the Phoenix
school board. Square dances
are held regularly on Satur
day nights at the school with
Francis Cronin as club caller
and guest callers participating
occasionally.
Entire families sometimes
attend, and included, among
the regular dancers are junior
high school age children, par
entsand grandparents.

For Stamp Club
Slides of a trip through the
southvest were shown mem
bers of Southern Oregon
Stamp club at a recent meet
ing.' The pictures were taken
by Kenneth Lewis and his
wife, and showed Grand can
yon, Oak Creek canyon, and
many other scenic sports in
Arizona, New Mexico and
Utah, including some ancient
Indian pueblo ruins.
Following the business
meeting and program, the
members "swapped stamps."
A new member, Leland Slat
ter, was admitted to the club.
Bruce Barnett was a guest.
Refreshments were served
by Mrs. Gordon Warner and
Mrs. Irene Cordier.
Girl Scouts

Girl Scout Troop -11 held
a tea April 27 at the Archer
H. Watson, Jr. home honoring
mothers of members. The
theme of the tea was "Inter
national Friendship" which is
an important part of the sec
ond class rank.

one of the mothers, told of her
experience as a Girl Guide in
Indonesia, and showed some
pictures y

and yellow. The table was set
with a "white lace cloth center
ed with yellow flowers and
yellow .candles. The refresh
ments were green and yellow
cup cakes and yellow punch.
