Post Office to Move

Shady Cove-Trail Moving
from the old Shady Cove post
office to the new structure
next to the Cove Drug is ex
pected to be completed by
Monday.
The pummice brick build
ing was erected by Ted Ball
of Medford with Dick Pfeiffer
of Shady Cove helping him.
Shady Cove has had a post
office for the past 18 years
and the present postmaster
and his wife, Mr. and M r s.
Howard Nutt, have been post
master and postmistress for
the past six years.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Esten
of Laurelhurst rd., Trail, en
tertained several relatives
and friends over the week
end. Those present were Mrs.
Esten's sister and brother-in-
law, Mr. and Mrs. Volney
Oden and children of Wolf
Creek; Mrs. Henry Speaker
and daughter of Wolf Creek;
Mrs. Esten's cousin and fam
ily Mr. and Mrs. Jack Vaughn
and son of Wilderville; Mrs.
Jerry Spencer of Crescent
City, California, and her son
and daughter-in-law Mr. and
Mrs. Jim Collier and daugh
ter of Eagle Point.

would be no May meeting of
the Shady Cove Garden club.
This statement was in error
and the May meeting will be
Monday, May 12, at the home
of Mrs. Floyd Kelley with the
program to be on "Iris."
A pre-school clinic will be
held in the Shady Cove school
Wednesday, May 7, from 1 to
3 p.m. Children who plan to
enter the first grade at Shady
Cove in the fall are eligible
to attend. Immunizations will
be offered. Dr. A. E. Merkel,
county health physician, will
be the examining doctor. It
is asked that each prospective
first grade student receive a
physical examination at this
clinic or from their own phy
sician before entering school.
At the school election on
consolidation Wednesday at
the schoolhouse, the vote was

Joe Hall of Shady Cove was
released from Rogue Valley
hospital last week end and
is staying with Tom King in

Osteopathic hospital in Med
ford for treatment of pneumonia.

two fingers Wednesday when
hot grease from a roast spill

Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Clark
of Big Butte Creek, Trail,
have returned from a three
weeks trip to Redding, Mo
desto and Grass Valley and
other points in California
where they visited friends and
relatives. Mrs. Clark's sister,
Mrs. Beatrice Browder, of
San Diego, returned home
with the Clark's to stay with
them for a while. In Modesto
they visited their granddaugh
ter and husband, Mr. and
Mrs. Keith Shock. In Grass
Valley they visited -Mrs.
Clark's :ster Mrs. D. K. Weis
brod, and with her brother,
Kenneth Keith.
Mr. and Mrs. Ted Kucera
of Grenada, Calif., are guests
of Mr. and Mrs. Gus Olsen of
Shady Cove. The Kucera's are
former residents of the area.
They now own and operate
the Cattlemen's club at Grenada.
The Rogue Elk Extension
Unit met April 16 at the home
of Mrs. Oscar Hanson. Co
hostesses were Mrs. Howard
Ash and Mrs. Morris Bush.

ther, Emery Nye, visited with
Jantzer's aunt and husband,

Mrs. Oscar Hanson of Elk
creek, Trail, is confined to
bed with the mumps. Leonard
Hanson, who has been in bed
with the mumps, was able to
be out of bed for the first
time Thursday. Both are im
proving slowly. Oscar Hanson
broke his thumb in two places
and mashed it. The accident
happened when his hand was
hit by a piece of vine maple
while operating a cat and
building a road.

Shady Cove has received

Brother, Lloyd Roach, is ill

A good start has been made
on the new church building
for the Trail community
church. The initial work of
a basement has been complet
ed and a parking space made
for cars.
The Prairie Bible Institute
Gospel team will be presented
at the Trail Community
church, Friday, May 9, at 7:30
pjn. Speaker will be Dan
Smith, former missionary
from China.

Mobile Maternity
Ward in Operation
Starkville, Miss. (IP) H. G.
Huddleston is operating a mo
bile maternity ward.
He did not choose this role
It was forced (or laid) upon
him by a hen who frequents
the elementary school at
Booneville, Miss., where Hud
dleston teaches.
For some reason this hen
chose Huddleston's automobile
as a nesting place in the
space between the radiator
and grille.
Students at the school
abetted the operation by pro
viding nesting materials.
. Now Huddleston is taking
an extension course at Missis
sippi State College here. He
drives around the campus
with the hen, unruffled by the
noise and movement, perched
dutifully on her eggs. .
The blessed event is due in
about two weeks, Huddleston
says. Until then, he is driving
slowly and taking it easy over
the bumps.
