In every hospital, there is much more than
the patient or visitor actually sees. There is the
kitchen where food is prepared for patients,
water distillers because hospitals require large
amounts of distilled water, machines to keep
equipment sterile. There are facilities for heating,
laundering-equipment, and many hidden pipes
and ducts.
In the new hospital there .also is a chapel, con
ference rooms, a cafeteria and a snack bar and
gift shop. The latter is just inside the main
entrance. '
Among construction features which visitors
tomorrow and Sunday will notice is the conduc
tive 'tile floors in the operating and delivery
rooms so there will be no static electricity. Rub
ber tile was used in the corridors, vinyl tile
elsewhere.
The heating system 'is hot water convector
radiation, with outdoor thermometers anticipat
ing temperature changes in advance and regu
lating the flow of hot water in four zones.
There are special locker and lounging rooms
for all hospital personnel, including the lay-help,
practical and graduate nurses and the medical
staff.
Patient rooms contain clothes closet, toilet,
wash bowl, baths in three rooms, showers in five
rooms, night light, high light, low light, oxygen,
suction, power outlet, and private telephone-, if
desired. They also include television and radio
antennae, and a two-way call system to nurses.
Many of the pictures in this section were
