Bengtso
n Hopeful
For Vet Hospital
At Camp White
O. H. Bengtson, a Medford
attorney and GOP candidate
for state representative, today
reviewed some of the history
of Camp White as a domi
ciliary. He said he is hopeful
that a hospital can be au
thorized there, despite the ap
parent resistance of the Vet
erans Administration.
Bentrtson recalled he was
the state, legislator who in
1947 "sponsored and success
fully steered"- a bill author
ising the state to accept the
facilities from the federal gov
ernment for the sum of $1.
"The facilities could well
have been employed by the
state for many purposes and
saved the taxpayers hundreds
of thousands of dollars for
buildings which have been
built for state use since,
Bengtson charged.
When the property was lost
to the state, through a gov
ernor's veto, and the Veter
ans of Foreign Wars showed
interest in urging that the
hospital be saved for a domi
ciliary and hospital tor vei
opposition from the
Veterans Administration was
met immediately, he said,
ft Was predicted no amount ,
of effort could save the facili
ties from being torn down,
arrHinff to Benetson. What
finally saved the hospital,-he
declared, "was testimony pre
sented before the senate com
mittee considering a bill to
make Camp White hospital
a domiciliary. Bengtson was
among those who testified.
He said today that getting
a hospital established at Camp
White "is no more impossible
than it was to obtain a domi
ciliaryj" and that "the time
has come to gather facts and
figures" to present in a. fight
for the hospital."

lent amount of power into the
PGE system in the Portland
area.
BPA will collect a. transmis
sion charge of about $235,000
