Jane, a dimple-cheeked, blue-eyed first
grader, sits in class staring wistfully
out the window. The other children are
listening eagerly to the teacher, who's at the
piano singing a new song they're about to
learn. Jane looks at her teacher and classmates
occasionally, but most of the time her gaze
is fixed on the window.
Dick is an eighth grader. His teacher is
worried about him because he doesn't seem
to learn his lessons very well, and he's dis
