blue baby shower, given for
Mrs. Dale Schulz by Mrs. Ern
est Smith, assisted by Mrs

Smith home Thursday night
was attended by 31 ladies
who brought many appropri
ate gifts, from baby rattles to
blankets.
One unique gift was an old
baby carriage used when a
baby by Mrs. Schulz and the
other Doran children. The
carriage was dug out of
wood shed by Lois Smith
who discovered that although
having had much wear, was
still usable, owing to its
sturdy construction. After
being painted in gay colors.
and relined with a delicate
pink material, it looked like
a million dollars, and was an
outstanding feature of the
party.
Frank W. Walker, a teacher
in the Grants Pass schools,
with a piano tuning side line.
was a business visitor here
Tuesday. He was searching
for bummer lambs for his
youngsters whom he said
were so eager for them as pets
that he was almost afraid to
go home without finding any
Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Barrett
and daughter of Central Point
are staying at the E. C. Ham
ilton home, where Mrs. Bar
rett is helping with the
house work.
Don Bohnert,' a young far
mer of the Central Point dist
rict, has leased the Touvelle
farm here, for a term of five
years, on a share crop basis;
Among crops intended to be
grown will be several acres
of row crops, including sugar
beet seed.
The knoll, on the Touvelle
farm, just south of the Modoc
Orchard, has been leveled off
during grading operations,
Old timers who claim they
have seen cattle marooned on
this high spot to keep out of
flood waters swirling on all
sides when the river Rogue
was on a rampage, think this
mav not have been a wise
move.
A Table Rock couple were
recently stranded for about
three quarters of an hour at
a Medford bus station, trying
to get through on a conversa
tion ridden telephone line to
have home folks meet them
on a return trip from San
Francisco.
Signs of the times, or hap
penings we have not met up
with for some years, "men
picking up empty bottles
alone the highway: the ad
vertising of fire wood, and
split shakes, and the old knife
sharpener and saw filer going
from house to house fixing
up the dull tools for a price
more in line with the income
of those in the lower income
brackets."

days visit with their son-in-law
and daughter, Mr. and
Mrs. Dean Inglis, and two
sons at Mountain View, Calif.
As rain gauges here are
emptied and read at different
hours, it is hard to get an ac
curate comparison with the
airport readings, but weather
wise folks here believe we
are currently getting more
rainfall than what is meas

In Jackson county, things
were in a terrible mess, peo
ple were not paying their
taxes, and some unscrupulous
"come lately's" were taking
advantage of the peoples'
plight, and trying to organ
ize a revolution. The court
was startin' a commissary,
and those responsible for get
tin' me into the $5 a day job,
had apologized, while others
were writing letters of en
couragement, and begging us
to stay on the job. Amid all
of this gloom, there came

Elderly Man Found
Frozen To Death
ToUgate, Ore. (IP) The
body of William Ezra Mack,
83, was found IV2 miles north
of here Sunday. Sheriff's dep
uties said the elderly man
lived alone in a cabin in the
Tollgate area and apparently
became exhausted while hik
ing and froze to death.
Mack was last seen at 5
p.m. Wednesday deputies said.
The man's knapsack and skis
were found near the cabin
and a search was begun.

championing the cause of law
and order, disregarding what
it might do to his paper's cir

Delake Boy Hurt
In Gun Accident
Portland OP) A 14-year
old Delake boy, Matt Pom
pel, was in critical condition
today in "a Portland hospital,
after being wounded in the
chest with a .22 caliber bullet
at a home in Delake Sunday.
Doctors said the bullet lodg
ed near the youth's spine.
Delake police chief Al Bar
zee said the teen-ager had
been at the home of Mrs.
Marjorie F. Settle visiting her
two sons, Byron and Terry.
The three boys were in a bed
room with the rifle when By
ron, 17, apparently attempted
to unload it. The gun dis
charged and the bullet struck
