Further Hints Withheld
But he has steadfastly re
fused to give any further hints
and extended the embargo to
the song which was written
by Norman Paul, one of Dur
ante's writers, and Irv Lubin.
When the record company
included the song in its "Me
dium Rare" album. Verve was
unaware Durante had refused
to clear the title.
"It was too close to me to
let anyone write a song about
it, Jimmy explained.
Because the master record
had been cut before Durante
gave his blessing, the firm
feared it would have to des
troy the pressings and lose
the $25,000 spent on the ven
ture. The entertainer gave Verve
clearance, however, after the
unsuspecting Durante caught
the trio's act, and "Good
night," at Harold's Club.
After the song, Durante led
the applause.
